My EH has suddenly stopped working. It was fine on Monday -stopped Tuesday. The indicator panel showed the correct time. I fired up manually by pressing the appropriate button and nothing happened. Any thoughts on the most likely cause of the problem Electrics working - fuel tank full - . Grateful for any thoughts TOC.

did you try the re set button

Good point - not sure I did but then again I can't see a Reset Button on the control panel.... I did switch off power completely and started all over with no good result. I wonder where your reset button is located. Do they all have the same control panel. I suspect a good service is probably required as boat new to me. But if there was a quick answer I'd appreciate it!

the re set is on the heater, possibly under a domed rubber grommit thingie

Could also be a fuel supply problem. If your boat has the dreaded fuel bug it can block the narrow Eber lines very easily

Ok, really like saying my car won't start - whY?

For starters, which model? I beklieve only the latest series have reset buttons. What actually happens when you try to start? Does the fan start? Does the fuel pump click? Do you get white mist from the exhaust? Which control panel do you have? Some of the later ones have a diagnostic output.

You can get a lot of advice and information from the LeTonkinois website http://www.letonkinoisvarnish.co.uk/Eberspacher_Intro_1.html and they give a number of links to manufactures and suppliers sites to download manuals for most of the kit.

Rob.

I agree with Rob2. Depends on the model
I have a D3l of unknown vintage but I guess early 90's which has a reset button on the top of the heater. Far removed from the basic control panel.

Some folk will believe anything, I suppose you believe in fairies as well? - My D1L of mid 1980's vintage has a reset button on top of the heater below a rubber grommet thingy - I would hardly call a mid 80's unit "latest series"

Thanks All. Mine is an Airtronic D2 or D4. The diagnostics on the control panel weren't very helpful. I'll look at the link suggested by rob2. When I started up - niet - nothing - nada!
We'll get to the bottom if it but much appreciate the assistance on this forum. Thanks again TOC

I'll ask the same as Rob2... Without knowing the precise symptoms it is impossible to narrow down what might be wrong.

When you switch the heater on the first thing the ECU does is to check resistance of various components.. e.g. GlowPin and flame fail detector.. if any of these fail their test then the startup will go no further.

So... does the fan start..? does the fuel pump start clicking..? and if the fan does start - exactly how many seconds does it run for (and at what speed e.g. slow, medium or fast)?

If you really mean 'nothing happens' i.e. no fan noise at all then I would suggest checking resistances of glow pin, flame fail and overheat sensors. But don't bother with these checks if the fan starts.. Then we'd have to look elsewhere..

Sorry - but more info needed.

resets definately on D3,4,5 under round gromet on heater itself. not sure if the lorry one the D2 has this.

ecu £300.. sounds expensive...

But - before guessing any more.. precise symptoms needed.. sorreee....

(BTW - The D2 and D4 units I have seen don't have any reset buttons).

No, but probably by far the easiest to keep functioning (with essentially simple relay logic, rather than 'electronic control'. :D
And that is why I still have it - so simple to diagnose and repair - so what if it is 25 years young - will probably still be going long after I am not.
