Hi everyone

I need a bit of help with info for this heater.

The new owners of a Bene 477 have been advised that the heating system on their three year old Bene 47.7 is U/S.

All the 'plumming' is there, just the working bit is erm, 'unfixable' is a polite term!

They have been quoted a sum I feel is a bit steep for a new heating element bit? Even if there was a need for the 'Brain' bit would it be this much? Nearly a £1,000:00!!!!

Has anyone got an idea where to get a second opinion. Is there an Engineer based at Haslar, or near to Gosport? Do they have to be an authorised fitter, can the Webasto unit fit on the end?

My interest in this is that it's family who have bought it, and we're coding it to be part of the charter fleet.

Any info with regard to this high price becoming more realistic would be gratefully received.

Cheers in advance

They're not a difficult beast to fit. Copies of the installation manuals are readily available on ebay. There are also a few eber "specialists" there too.. Webasto units can be fitted onto the existing eber pipework quite easily, but Webasto are very keen to keep their marine and commercial businesses seperate - to the point of not allowing commercial dealers to sell into the marine trade. Eberspacher parts can be had new by contacting Espar ltd. , based in Plymouth/marlow. Do a quick google and they'll come somewhere near the top of the search.

unfixable after 3 years would suggest that it was very badly installed in the first place (i.e. in a stupid position or with insufficient swan neck on the exhaust) mine is that old and is in perfect condition.

You could try Malcolm Morely liveaboard at Haslar. I thing he installs Webasco & he coulr give you a view on replacement cost etc. Don't have his no but he's in the Haslar marina handbook or find him on Petrus on I pontoon.

hello
the heaters are so simple it is unbelievable, what model is it? go to www.espar.com and get the relevant manual printed off, the spares are expensive but if it is only 3 years old i doubt that it is badly broken. i sell s/hand ex bt ebers but only D1LCs or D2 Airtronics.
am in north wales so cant pop round but if i cant help go to ebay and type in eberspacher and do a search, all the eber bits are there. if you want to phone me 07967 313792 and i will go thru the syptoms with you and point in the right direction
