OK back again with more information.
It's a D3L which, from the Le Tonkinois Varnish site, I see is mid-80s ... so pretty old.
It tries to start like this:
Fires around 60 seconds
Starts to warm
Around 90 seconds a higher pitched sound comes in - gets warmer. All promising at this stage
2 minutes it cuts out
Will restart for several seconds on a second go and then cuts out
One thought is whether anyone can recommend a later model that would be a reasonably straightforward swap with the existing wiring, fuel feed, exhaust and air outlets.
It's most likely to be a simple fault, possibly the temperature switch. David2452's advice to get it to a CV dealer is good, and you'll also find they're most realistically priced than marine dealers.
The D3L is essentially a simple, reliable, well-engineered heater. Contrary to suggestions here, it only has one fan, and it doesn't have an "igniter mesh" on the glow plug, so don't bother looking for it!
