Eberspacher Exhaust Silencer Installation

Er - whoops, yes it is. Would you have any idea where I can get what the OP was referring to? I could only find the metal ones which posters have said risk a leak of exhaust gas.

Think all exhaust silencers are going to be metal because of the heat. I wasn't sure if the leak was due to poor construction or the flexi-pipe to silencer joint. I can't see anything wrong with making the joints with an exhaust jointing paste to ensure gas-tightness. For suppliers, obviously the guy in Turkey is one source, otherwise David or an Eber agent?
For what it's worth, I have a Mikuni heater and fitted a silencer to it which made bugger all difference that I could hear.

There's are two 'grades' of silencer, as I understand it. One is designed for truck/van mounting where the heater is outside the vehicle body: these silencer kits are not gas tight and therefore not suited to marine mountings where there is a good chance of the heated air being contamined by any leakage from the exhaust system.
The other type is marine fitting which is designed to be gas tight and therefore suitable for internally mounted heaters. There's a few on eBay (eg https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271199113814) at about twice the price of non marine silencer kits.

Excellent: thanks very much. Interesting also its long pipes to avoid adding any joints to the system.

I can report that the proper marine silencers are very effective. Very quiet indeed and worthy of the investment. Sitting onboard being gently warmed as I type.

Pretty much correct assuming an air heater, coolant heaters using rads or matrix and installed in the engine room generally used the same silencer as vehicles until very recently and this was perfectly acceptable and still is from a safety viewpoint, however since we started using the marine grade ones on those too the reduction in exhaust noise is material.
