Eberspacher ducting insulation

I used some of that foil covered bubble wrap, but could still feel the warmth on the outside of the insulation afterwards.

I then found some spare bubble wrap lying around at home and added a couple of layers of that. Very effective! And much cheaper - FOC in fact.

I knew all that spare bubble wrap would find a use one day:)

Wrapping polythene around it would scare the bejesus out of me, I would be checking for fire every 5 minutes or waiting for black smoke in the locker.

+1 That stuff burns well and a path of readily available air-pockets, a flammable plastic and ample heat source doesn't sound a good recipe to me either!

Very useful thread however as I'm also looking to duct heat from just such a heater under the floor of an Arrowbolt I'm currently rebuilding. Some very useful tips and info so thanks to all! :D

Maxitherm ducting insulation

This is on old thread I am bringing back to life here but I thought it might be useful to someone as we approach winter season. I've just insulated all of my hot air ducting with Maxitherm (yes it is expensive and there are cheaper alternatives see above) and I am very pleased with the improvement in performance. I haven't been analytical about the benefit derived but I would say that there is a very significantly improved performance from the system. I was considering an upgrade to a bigger heating unit but the Eberspacher engineer I use recommend trying the insulation, it was good advice. I have an Eberspacher D3LC heating a 12m pilot house yacht. Strongly recommended if you want to get more cabin heating out of your existing hot air heating system. The insulation is very easy to retrofit, it took me a couple of hours to do the entire system this afternoon.
