Eberspacher D3L

Per second, surely per minute? It will continue ticking fast until it drops down to the next heat level which depends on boat temperature so time will vary. Are you saying it doesn't slow down even after extended period?
Yes, sorry, 240 ticks per minute. It keeps working like this till the thermostat temperature is reached, then the heater stops . After a while, when the temperature decreases below the thermostat settings the heater starts again. I did not use the heater for a long time and I'm not sure, but I thought the pump rate would decrease a lot after some minutes. May be I'm wrong, may be 240 ticks per minute is the normal rate ?

Is it different now than what it was before you did the maintenance? As above assuming it is 240 per minute it sounds about right for start-up/high heat. If it's producing a good amount of heat, isn't smoking out the exhaust and you have a means of turning it down or a thermostat, let it run for a good while & it should reduce...
I've got a good amount of heat, no smoke, thermostat is working fine to stop the heater. Lets say the pump rate is 240 per mn... or it' s stopped... never reduced. Is that normal ?

While stripping and servicing a D3L which I bought sechand I learned some useful facts about them both from an employee of Colchester fuel injection ltd (who supply the all important Wick and felt rings/gaskets etc) and some of you forumites.
I took a series of pics while I was assembling it and added some, somewhat squigley lines and some comments which I felt would be useful to someone who has never stripped one of them as I hadent before.
I have been asked a few times for the pics, and since there is quite a few of them, emailing them is slow.
I am putting the pics on here for future refference.
Hope its not too many pics for the moderators, or perhaps they can put them somewhere that they will be available during a related search.
Not trying to teach those already in the know how to suck eggs.

This end of breather pipe fits into rubber housing around glow plug and allows ari to circulate around top end of glow plug preventing a build up of condensation hence preventing corrosion problems on the glow plug electrical connection.

It may depend on what controller you're using but (from memory) our old D3L was the same as current D3LC, in that it reduced speed and output through stages rather than going from full blast to off.

My ancient D3 (from memory it's a D3L, and definitely not D3LC ) does not reduce heat output in stages, and has but two settings - high and low.

In my set up it has to be switched manually between high and low output, but there is a thermostat in the saloon which will turn the heat off when temperature exceeds that set, and restarts the heater when it falls too low.

It certainly shouldn't switch itself off when it's reached required temperature, it should reduce and maintain the temperature. Maybe it's a really old/basic set up, or incorrectly set up, I dunno I'm afraid...:(

A D3L is old and basic!

I've just checked the manual, and you can have it on full heat, half heat or off. That's it.

It is switched between the two available output levels either manually (as in my set up) or by a thermostat.

There's nothing 'wrong' with my set up. It's just the option the previous owner chose.
