My eberspacher Airtronic was professionally installed and has run for 10 years totally trouble free. At the very end of last season, and the start of this one, it fires up fine and runs for a period of between 1 and 3 hours before stopping. The control panel shows it as operating, but it's not. I can fire it up again and it will start, and the whole process is repeated. The only thing different is that at the end of last season I filled up(I think) for the first time with a different sort of diesel before being lifted out and that's when the problem began. It might simply be coincidence but has anyone else experienced a similar problem with low sulphur diesel? Diesel was called WP Marine's Advanced Diesel 10, which is FAME FREE, low sulphur and has less than 1% bio. Diesel is available at Premier Marinas.

You didn't say what model you have but you also fail to mention ever cleaning the gauze/screen or even replacing the fuel filter.. Can you confirm these have these been checked and either cleaned or replaced?

You've not mentioned the heater model number yet... but we can pretty much guarantee that once the burner is opened you will need the new gaskets in order to put it all back together..

The fact that it's starting means there's probably nothing bad wrong.. Any more questions just ask.. just remember the fuel filter is in the lower end of the pump - Don't touch the upper (outlet) end of the pump because that's what adjusts the fuel calibration.

Should be better

From extensive testing using standard red available at my marina and white from the local tesco, my Eber goes much much longer between de-cokes on white.

Truck dealers find it quite strange that we marine, and to a lesser extent RV specialist dealers have so many issues with the things and I have had discussions with a number of them on courses, the conclusion was that there were several contributory factors. Many more DIY and used fits, High sulphur fuel, now not an issue, or at least need not be, lack of usage and lack of service. Also on narrowboat particularly, inappropriate plumbing circulation resistances and unbalanced systems leading to excess cycling. One more and for some a quite surprising conclusion, Over specified heaters on Air, liquid and combination based heaters.

Quite a common problem on domestic heating installations also I believe.....sized on the basis of maintaining the entire house at a specific temperature. Few can now afford to do that! .. so in reality only a few rooms are being heated. Result: inefficiency and excess wear-and-tear.

Perhaps it might be the fact that driving a truck through salt, or indeed fresh, water is not encouraged. ;)

That was raised and discounted as in both instances the heaters are protected from it, :)
It was also mentioned that many trucks get more direct salt spray on the exposed components (exhaust & combustion air) in a year from salted road spray than almost all leisure boats do. ;)
