Hello,

I've got an Eberspacher D2 with an 801 timer. When at the boat this weekend i noticed the timer was showing H rather than the ambient temperature. The controller and heater still seem to be working as it started up and when i adjusted the temperature the heater slowed down as normal.

Checked connections at the timer and fuses, turned power on/off. Has anyone come across this before?

Thanks,
Mat

Hi all,

Thanks for the info so far. Yes it is a digital modulator and not a timer. I've seen the error codes and they all seem to be numbers. I'll give it another try next weekend and double check all the connections at the heater.

Thanks,
Mat

Is it possible that there is a poor connection to the lcd such that it is not switching on the correct segments? The display is usually connected to the circuit board by a strip(s) of conductive rubber and sometimes taking it apart and re-assembling it can make it work properly again.

Does the time normally just show fault codes? I thought you had to enter the diagnostics menu?

Im sure that the display was working correctly when i went up and down the temperature range it just defaulted back to H instead of ambient temperature... i think.

I'll do some more checks as suggested at the weekend and report back, You never know someone else might have the same issue one day although i doubt it!

To get the fault codes on the 801 press and hold the 'flame' button until 'dA' is displayed. May be worth running through the fault codes and clearing any. The 801 instructions should be on line somewhere, if not I will scan my paper copy for you.

Diagnostic Readout
With the heater switched on, press and hold 'flame' key until the display shows ‘dA’. The blue LED will briefly illuminate. Release the key. After a short time the LED flickers momentarily during diagnostic data transfer then goes off. The display shows FO followed by its fault code then automatically scrolls through any previously stored fault codes, up to a maximum of 5.
Typical fault codes:
10 = Over voltage - Check battery charging system.
11 = Under voltage - Check battery voltage.
12 = Overheating - Check air ducts for obstruction.
52 = Safety time exceeded - Check fuel supply.
For other fault codes consult your local Eberspächer dealer.
Press UP and DOWN keys together to erase stored fault codes and display shows ‘EE’. To exit diagnostic mode, press and release the 'FLAME' key.
If stored fault codes cannot be erased consult your local Eberspächer dealer.
