Ebay not always cheapest or best

EBAY really need to sort this out.!
Tick the UK box but then scroll down to locate company its very frequently in China.
Union Jack featured anywhere in the advert usually arouses suspicions .
Another wheeze is location "London" . Probably a cargo shed at Heathrow in 2 weeks time more like, not a problem if want cheap ,dubious material and not in a hurry .
Four Marine quality "stainless " latches ordered from China went rusty in about 6 months. :)
One clue can be delivery times, if it's 7 days it's not coming from the UK.

Ok. So that’s lifejackets ticked off my list - assuming no component parts come from Far East

Simrad, B&G and Lawrance are all owned my Navico and often share near identical internals. My B&G must predate the move to Mexico.

Much of Garmin’s stuff is made in Taiwan.

To be honest though, it doesn’t matter where something is manufactured per se, but the level of quality control applied by the company whose name appears on the product, whether it is made in their ‘own’ factories or that of their suppliers.

The suggestion that something is simply substandard because of where it is manufactured is certainly questionable - it is far more complicated than that. The ethical questions around manufacturing add a whole other layer of complexity.

China/Taiwan
Taiwan is not China, despite China's best efforts and ambitions, both ethically and quality wise.

I find Taiwanese is pretty much up there with Japanese stuff, and Japanese stuff up there with the best of European/America now, or better in many areas.

The best of Chinese stuff is pretty much made by Taiwanese companies, often using Japanese plant/technology/systems, e.g. Foxconn who make Apple stuff (yes, I know the stories of the suicides).

Broad generalisation, of course, but I think it stands.

I'd love to meet good Chinese who care as much as Japanese makers/crafts people do. Actually, strike that, I'd love to meet good British people who care as much as Japanese makers/crafts people do. I get the feeling that there's quite a conscious "ripping off of Whitie" going on with Chinese.

May be they feel justified to after what our ancestors, the East India Company etc, did to them in the past?
