Ebay: is a bid below reserve price binding on the bidder?

There's non so strange as folk!

You make a bid of £1000 and expect to pay £40. You know there's a reserve, The seller has set a minimum sale price and you agreed to pay more so the system sets your bid to the reserve. If anyone else is about ( at say £950 ) you will still be the high bidder but at £960.

If you were in an auction room the price would be now be £1000!

Is your intent to say 'Hey look at me I have deep pockets'? If it is you will find them very empty quite quickly! :D

Nope, in an auction room the bid would be £40 reserve not met, with perhaps "come and talk to me after". But Ebay is nothing like an Auction room.

Don't undertand the deep pockets bit, My intent was to give the OP some infomation.

Still not bragging or boasting or whinging, you lot are funny.

you could be crafty if you are offered the choice and ask the seller for his email address if it doesn't make the reserve.you then email him without going through ebay.make him aware of he would have to pay commission on the sale and you'll probably get it cheaper anyhow.

So what is the point of it, if I may ask ?

Boo2

I have given one reason already, But sorry no more.

I don't understand why people give their strategies away on public fora, I want to win for the lowest possible price, or sell for the highest price, you may be in competition with me.

My strategy is fire and forget. I make one bid only, for what I'm prepared to pay, and that's it. I don't bother checking and I wait for the email to tell me if I won it or not.
