morning all,

trying to get a (possible) bargain on ebay.co.uk, but the guy says that it's post to UK only. Not the first time it happens, contacted him (via the ebay message thing) exchanged half a dozen messages and he claims that he's activated the Global Shipping Programme and I can bid. Previous cases with other buyers, they simply opened the thing to international shipping and that was much easier...
Checking again the listing, and it's still postage to UK only!
From what I gather from reading the ebay pages, seller gets the money, ships to a UK address, who then fwrd it to the overseas. Fine by me, but I'm a bit confused on how do I know how much I have to pay for the global part of the shipping. Not clear if I have to register somehow (doesn't look like it).

Unless anyone can figure out how this mess works, I may have to resort to the forum for help (ie. I bid, pay for the goods, goods delivered to a forumite in the UK who then gets them to the PO for me and I paypal them the UK 2 GR shipping cost...)

Any ideas?

cheers

Be very careful of any scams - many scammers will say that the item will get forwarded on but in reality it doesn't exist.
A lot of the time they want paying through money companies like western union money transfer that way there is no traceability to the scammer.
and as the saying goes if its too good to be true then it is.

do your research as much as possible on the seller and item for sale and have another set of eyes to double check for a second opinion.

Have used this to buy a S/H propeller from the USA.
As buyer when you click the button you are charged the total cost of the transaction via Paypal in the currancy of your location.
In my case it was around 75 US dollars for the prop around 85.00 dollars for shipping plus whatever the import taxes are in your country. In my case (UK) some import duty and blimming VAT on the entire thing.
This is then converted from dollars to sterling and deducted from your paypal A/C.
Followed the entire thing online from the propeller being collected from seller and going to local depot, then on to two or three other distribution centres before going to airport.A day later you can see it land at Heathrow and it took another 3 or 4 days to do the 50 miles to my workshop.

Happy to help Vas. Will be uk based for next 3 weeks if that's any good for you.

thanks ljs, I'll contact you if the global shipping thing doesn't work out!

jon, not going to do that outside ebay and paypal, so I should be covered. Bought a truckload of things for the rebuilt, wasn't stung once. I know it's never too late, but wont accept anything dodgy.

+1. Vas, I'm back in the UK in just over a week's time and can easily receive/forward to you or your mum (like last time...) if for whatever reason LJS isn't available.
thanks J. auction ends tomorrow night, so probably will be paid and shipped by Mon-Tue so pushing it a bit.

How big is the package Vas? I have a colleague going to visit family in Northern Greece in a couple of weeks.

Nothing massive P., 20X20X50cm and a couple of kilos, Shipping wont be too much, doubt it's worth getting your colleague to carry it over, thanks for the offer!

Yep, have bought like that from the US. Exactly as you say, but if you specify USPS Greek customs 9 out of 10 don't bother so you're not stung any further :D
However, there's no tax within the EU (for as long the keep us in and you don't decide to get out :p ) so don't see the reason this seller is making his (and my!) life more difficult...

OG, the odd thing is that in the listing there's no option to specify a country other than the UK, that's why I recon he's configured it wrong.

cheers
