Out with the Mrs this w/e I couldn't bear the thought of the usual bank holiday scramble for somewhere to eat so I had a google and chose Lanes of Lymington. What a discovery....polite, cheerful, nice food and a sensible bill to boot. They all seemed english as well.....how's that for a bonus!

Just thought people might like to know.

Why on earth would the nationality of a waiter make any difference to the quality of a meal? I assume what you meant was actually that they all had a grasp of the English language and were able to take your order efficiently?

I think he means the staff are actually English - preferable as it makes one feel more at home.

Agree with you - Lanes is one of the best in town. Did you get that info out of the marina handbook ?

No. Just googled Lymington restaurants

And as for the 'english' comment. I just find it nice to be somewhere that employs 'natives'.

Eat on board in comfort, having bought a nice local lobster or a crab or two or both from Seafayre on the bottom of Quay Hill. Served with a nice salad, some rustic bread and a bit of Dijon Mayo. Serve witth a bottle of that nice Muscadet brought back from Cherbourg on the last trip. Not even many dishes to wash and a huge number of wine vouchers saved over eating ashore, enough to pay for another lobster next time too.

Watch it mate!!! Seriously, I read in the paper today about two girls, aged 12 and 14, who have been charged with offences under the Race Relations Act over comments they posted on Twitter.

I was actually joking to point out the implied racism in the original post about having English staff :)

Anywhere else in the world they would make a big thing about being served local fayre by local people. Reasonable comment I thought. Not racist.

There is the Pub & Restaurant Forum just along from the Lounge, which I'm sure would also appreciate all the feedback here.

FWIW I don't think mentioning staff being English / British is racist, and detest it when mentioning a simple fact is jumped on...

Actually it implies that you are glad that it wasn't people who are NOT English, and the OP confirmed it was not a language thing therefore the assumption is that the OP does not like foreigners. I was not jumping on it, and actually deleted one of my earlier posts to avoid making a big deal of it, but then someone came and implied I was being racist with my other comment which I wasn't.

Actually I didn't mention language, although it is nice to be able understand the staff in a restaurant, particularly when one is acoustically challenged like moi! However the Mrs has pointed out that some of the PC police could have had the old bill knocking on the door.
Whoops.....no racism offered or implied, just nice to have 'locals' attending to our needs.

I'll now get my coat and prepare for my porrige.
