Eateries near Battlesbridge?

Confession: I'm a Medway moboer, but please don't hold that against me!

Will be staying in Battlesbridge next week, any recommendations for a good chippy and pub food? Looking more to the "competitively" priced pubs end of things, due to having to pour every spare penny into the fuel tanks of the boat...
We'll actually be in a caravan rather than the boat, but having visited the crouch recently and being rather impressed with the beauty of the area, thought we'd try it for a brief half term holiday.
 
You've got me stumped there! There is/was a cafe on the top of the antiques centre which offers good views of the area and there are one or two pubs in the village but I don't know anything about them.
Otherwise you will have to get in the car and either drive down the Crouch to Fambridge, Burnham etc. or go to nearby towns such as Maldon, Wickford, Rayleigh and Basildon, where you will find a range of places to eat.
 
Thanks for that, we're quite happy, and expecting, to drive really. The place we're staying looks a bit remote (hence the attraction!)
 
2 pubs in Battlesbridge, both Ok ish, but pricey due to the locality of the Antique shops. The Barge is nicer inside, but the Hawk is more pub grub.
There is a Cafe but I think only open at the weekends.

Nearest village Hullbridge has the Anchor, nice riverside eatery/pub, prices are ok, haven't eaten there for a while.
There is a Toby carvery about a mile out of Battlesbridge on the Runwell Road. It is a Toby Carvery.....


But I saved the best until last.

The Smugglers Den in Hullbridge is cheap beer, cheap food and very 'Essex' working class. Has a sort of balcony/patio on the riverside and the whole pace is pretty tatty but very friendly. We like it a lot.

Restaurants are thin on the ground and tend to be a bit up themselves. The revived Brandy Hole is good but no bargain.
 
Two pubs in Battlesbridge, The Hawk & The Barge. both pub grub rather than fine dining but were both OK last time we eat there.
Several lunch time places to cater for the antiques centres visitors. The one on top of the old mill has super views, friendly service, more cafe than restaurant. Willows Tea room looks interesting but not visited.
We recently had a superb Full English brunch at the Riverside Nursery, South Fambridge. About a 10 min drive via Beeches Rd / Watery Lane [if you have a narrow car].
 
I have eaten at The Hawk many times. It was a bit better before it changed hands but is still good value and acceptable. The Barge is smaller and nicer and last time I went there (18 months ago) the food was very good.
