Visiting Bembridge in a few weeks for the first time. Booked into Duver. Where might people recommend we can go for a good evening meal within sensible staggering distance? Will be a Saturday night if that’s important.
Will be a very long stagger. Eat on board and watch Below Decks !!

Your choice is quite limited . If you want to walk then Ganders is best as other side of st helens green . Friendly service by son of the owners . Was there on Wednesday night and that’s food and service good. It’s a little old fashioned maybe for some tastes but no screaming children in evidence in evening. If that is fully booked you could have a take away from Baywatch but I regard as greasy and overpriced. Assuming these don’t attract then one other on south side of green- no33 but no experience. This evening spent a lovely evening at Foxes - was very good once noisy brats departed around 8pm, staff lovely and owners have been there 20 years so doing something right. I don’t know what if anything BHYC or BSC offer currently for food in evening .

I go to Bembridge a lot, breakfast in the Duver beside the Marina Office is good, but your best bet is to go to M&S , stock up and eat on board

The breakfast butty is good at shack (they also have Steve’s bar from midday) but can be a long wait if not there at 8.30. Pizzas are available for dinners on Friday/Saturday night but only if you book unless you want one at say 5.30 . M&S can be found in Newport but a long walk from Bembridge but I guess you mean collecting on way to boat. One advantage of east cowes is now Waitrose for supplies but it does close early compared to mainland versions.

Best dressed crab doesn’t open in evenings and is currently running a booking system should this appeal t o anyone. Also according to recent reports there is a shortage of lobster in past few days . You can take the water taxi up to BSC from the duver marina if the use of own dinghy, canoe or paddle board doesn’t appeal but for dinner the water taxi service ends to early I suspect for many. If planning a trip in a 4 wheeled taxi to any of the nightlife in say Ryde if you can get a booking (say down at the restaurant by boating lake the Duck) then do book early as the number 8 bus is not that reliable.

I’m in Bembridge now and have been since Friday. We had lunch at the best dressed crab yesterday (they close at 3pm). We managed to blag a table outside but they were real busy and only had one table left, which was the walk in table. They reserved that for us. There was no lobster and whilst we were there they ran out of crab too. Apparently it’s the worst season in 40 years due to all the dredged contaminant from Portsmouth harbour being dumped on the fishing grounds. I met the potter who supplies the restaurant, he was on the beach in the afternoon. Not a happy chap.
Any way, not much around within walking distance for eating. So water taxi to bembridge beach then either go up into the town where there is a Chinese or there is the boat house pub just back from the beach. You’ll need to go lunchtime though or car taxi back if going evening time.
Like others have said, best in evening to break out the Cobb bbq and eat on board!
All this aside though, bembridge is a cracking place, you’ll love it I’m sure!!

St Helens is only a 20min walk, there are a few pubs and restaurants there!

Never had much success at eating out when in Bembridge. The choice is practically nil. There is always the Cook range of prepared meals, better than your average and they sell at one of the Bembridge Co-ops (not the closest one). That's what we ended up doing a couple of weeks ago.

Should anyone be in Bembridge today and fancy a walk there is a village fare on St. Helens green today . You could then visit the Vine PH for lunchtime drink to check out . I’m surprised no one has thought to offer bicycle hire from the old boat sheds which hire out the VW combi. I should mention there is a small art gallery with work by local artists in these sheds in case of interest ST840 and love the photos.

Just a shame about the lack of sunshine on the StHelens green this morning for the open top bus . The other thing you can do of course is catch the bus to say Ventnor and enjoy a wider range of culinary fare .
