My Quiksilver 2.4 planes at less than half throttle with my 3.3 2t (slatted floor). Then a lump of air gets underneath (you can see the floor hump as the wave of air travels aft) before cavitating and falling off the plane. The prop grips again and off you go. Repeat!!

I've discovered if you stand on the air hump when it appears it will dissipate before it gets to the prop and you can plane ad infinitum. A bit of hassle though.....

I measured 5kn on GPS at full throttle, half throttle dropped to about 4.8kn and to be fair on the little engine there were two of us on board so probably shouldn't expect much more.. Certainly beats rowing out.. :)

Was tempted to get a 5hp but glad I got the 3.5hp from a weight perspective.. Climbing a bank to the car yesterday with the outboard and a small petrol can I am glad it wasn't any heavier..

Guess the next thing is working out how to fit it to the boat.. Only have a small swim platform and the inflatable is a bit too wide (Wanted 2.3m but the deal on the 2.6m was too good to pass up).. If it doesn't work out I could always sell the 2.6 and get a 2.3 but will try it in the first instance..

I should have added, the 5hp is a two stroke, so just about at the limit of what's possible to lift on and off without discs in my back going "sproing".
5hp four strokes are several kilos heavier.

I have just aquireda second hand lodestar Rib it recommends 0.25 bar or 3.6psi it also has a safety relief valve
Not really relevant to OP question but I am pleasantly surprised by this little Rib.

Is it the 2.6m or 2.8m, I can't remember which, with a solid GRP floor? I have one, it has been robust, but is quite heavy for a dinghy of it's size. The tubes are big and with a solid floor it feels secure but even with a Yam 9.9 it won't plane with 3 people in it (unless they all lean over the front). With two people however once it gets over the hump it speeds up quite dramatically and then you can back off and keep planing at lower speeds.
