Achilles 24, with vovo MD2 saildrive. Problem. Engine starts and runs fine but when I try to engage drive via single Morse control lever, the engine cuts out. I can start it in forward or reverse and its fine. Tried adjusting thottle cable to maintain revs, but then too many revs to engage drive.Could there be a fault with the Morse unit?
Help please as this is driving me mad.

I'm no expert but think that there is often an interlock switch on the morse control to stop you starting the engine in gear - it might be this causing the problem.

I have no expriance of this unit, butplenty with morse . what happens if you disconnect the throttle connection from the engine? does it stall? can you push the throttle further to the idle stop?, then adjustment of the morse cable ends might be the problem.

I had this on my Volvo 2001. When I pushed the lever into gear there was a clunk and the engine stopped. I finally tracked it down to a loose plate (gear shift mechanism) on the side of the gearbox where the gear cable attaches.

This may not specifically be your problem but you need to check that the gear cable adjustment is correct and the cable secure. In particular, make sure that the gearbox is in neutral with your control lever in the neutral position. If you have to 'jiggle' the control lever to get the engine out of gear, then the adjustment is wrong.

Will work through the suggestions and report back. thanks to all.
