6 weeks in Dubrovnik??

Personally I'm not sure I'd leave my boat for any length of time in one of the state owned ACI marinas

I was planning to leave my yacht in Dubrovnik marina for 6 weeks in July/August. Would you advise this?

why not Porto Montenegro ? (never been there myself, but I know the area quite well)
only positive comments, and prices are ok (I have the price list if you like)
I met one of the sales guy/ port managers at BOOT, nice guy and speaks perfect english, its a aussi.

ACI marina in Dubrovnic is safe, and good accomodation, laundry, transport to old town, etc...
the food in the cafetaria is bad, or even worse,

but its expensive, prices used to be online iirc.

why not Porto Montenegro, see previous post
 
Dubrovnik prices online suggest a flat rate throughout the year of €868 a month for up to 15m. In contrast Porto Montenegro's price list suggests €1340 a month in high season.

I have emailed both marinas to confirm the online prices and will report back

yes you're right,
as I can see, online prices in ACI Dunrovnic are VERY low, (monthly and yearly; daily rates are very high)
this is completely new info for me,
just check if they have space (used to be a problem long ago...)

for P montenegro, the guy told me there is a good reduction for advanced bookings

I was thinking more about ACI Trogir and particularly ACI Split where their attitude leaves some thing to be desired. ACI Dubrovnik seems to be better managed. Yes you'll be fine in Dubrovnik

Thats typical of all Croatian marinas. They want to encourage long term berthers so their longer term rates are very attractive compared to the W Med but daily rates are proportionately more expensive to catch the Italians who come across the Adriatic for short visits
 
Take it back, Dubrovnik is not so cheap

So e-mailed both Dubrovnik and Porto Montenegro

Dubrovnik said that they charge the daily rates only during high season, so for 7 weeks this comes to €5600. In contrast P Montenegro quoted the same seven weeks as €2074.

Montenegro now seems very attractive!!!

Do you recall the name of the Aussie that you met at Boot?

We will be in Croatia from June 10th to the 30th. Fountaine Pajot catamaran named Palarran. Thanks everyone for the good recommendations.
 
Tudor/Bart,Beckett's a good friend of mine along with the rest of the sales team.If you need any more info on Montenegro get in touch.I will probably go down there before the end of the month also.

I also plan to be there May and June, and hope to make it to Montenegro. Hanse 301 called Tawhiri, flying a New Zealand burgy from the port spreader.

Hi interested in your thoughts. We are planning to leave the Aegean after 10 years. I bought the boat in Athens and have spent 5 years refurbing it myself in a greek boatyard. We've also done most of the Cyclades Sporades and eastern Peloponnese in two or three week bursts. With me running my business from the boatyard.
Observations. Love the Greeks. Love the waters among the islands. Greek food gets better when you know what to ask for ie not the tourist menu. Yes there is the constant hassle of snagged anchors (our personal best is Epidavros last September with three anchors and five chains, but we were hit by an infestation of Russian charter boats) When it happens everyone helps, so its maybe chaotic but if you have a sense of humour you'll laugh and make friends. Most harbours are friendly and the municipality lays down harbour costs so I can say we have never been cheated. On the other side, hit a small harbour off the beaten track mid week and nobody will bother you for fees. The harbour police have always been friendly and helpful for us, and we are now friends of the coastguard. Our experiences have had us laughing so much I wrote a book about them (A BERTRAM THE AEGEAN AND TWO VIRGINS...Kindle) and am in the process of finishing my second.
So don't waste your time with Crete, its too touristy and sterile. Look at basing yourself somewhere like Aegina or Porto Helli It's cheap, efficient, easy to get to from the UK. Two and half hours from airport to boat. As long as you cruise away from Athens in any direction you'll feel the magic without the crowds. Don't go out in July or August. its too hot and crowded but the rest of the spring to autumn is great. When you leave your boat put it ashore in a boatyard. It's cheaper than trying to keep it afloat in a marina and safer. If you want to build a chicken coup on your fore deck they'll offer advice as to how you do it, and bring you beer whilst you labour.
Most of my friends who moved to Turkey and Croatia two or three years ago in search of better deals are coming back, because they miss the laid back friendships and cheap costs.
So why will we be leaving this year? Retirement, no time pressures so we're heading west before my liver and limbs give up and the eyesight fails too much. Will I miss the Aegean ......you betcha
 
Now that I am in the Adriatic, I thought that I would update the thread. I am currently in Brindisi having meandered from Sicily

I have become a convert and enthusiastic for the crsuisers wiki Cruisers Wiki . I am updating every port page as I go as most are out of date. If everyone else does this, we'll have a great resource

I have not been following this tread recently, so don't know what your plans are,
but while you're in the area,
Vieste and Tremiti islands is worth a visit
from there its easy to cross the adriatic via Palagruza and Lastovo...

but perhaps you know all that,

If anyone is flying out to Split to change crew then you should know several things. Split airport is not very near Split town. It is much nearer Trogir

There is an ACI marina in Trogir but it is ful with charter boats on Friday and Saturday

The Alternative is Yacht Club Seget http://www.cromarina.com/3790--~en~yachtclub_seget~yachtclub_seget.html

It is new and listed in the cruising books as "soon to open" It is a fully functioning brand new marina with lots of space for visitors

It's not a great anchorage with murky water, but you might temporarily get on the quay.
Last time I entered the Kastel gulf and anchored just east of the Trogir bridge, v convenient for the bus station.
