Easter Weekend Tides

Given the comments, I may now have the temerity to try it. I draw 2.3, and close quarters handling can be "interesting", but she will almost tour in her own length, even if it is only to starboard.

The crabbing appeals, as would the company, although this weekend, I am planning to singlehand in the wind and the rain. I might poke my nose in on Sat or Sun and have a look.

Our close quarters manouvering is also "interesting", but Brightlingsea is one of the best organised harbours I know. It is fairly straightforward and as long as one is aware of how the tide is running you can use it to assist berthing.

In terms of assistance from HM it is hard to beat.

Les (East Coast Offshore Yachting) draws 2.3 and is a regular at Brightlingsea. No fuss at all.

Course he ain't as long as you, so I don't know whether that would be an issue.

The procedure is to call up the HM who usually tells you to wait by the cardinal. Then he comes up in his rib and asks you length, draft, etc. then tells you to follow him. He whizzes off and you, er, attempt to follow him. If you smile sweetly, like wot I do, he will even leap out of his rib and help with your lines.

Smashing, friendly place. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
