The EA have confirmed that this annual event will take place between Good Friday, 6th April and Easter Monday 9th April.
Throughout this weekend it is likely you will encounter canoeists participating in the 125 mile Devizes to Westminster canoe race. The race is an endurance event requiring most competitors to complete the course non-stop. The average duration is between 17 – 25 hours.
By the time the competitors reach the river Thames at Reading they will already have paddled 53 miles and portaged 56 times on the Kennet and Avon Canal. It is possible they will be suffering the effects of fatigue and they still have 72 miles to go!
The effect of wash from powered boats can put the canoeists at greater risk of capsize, so please show consideration, and when in the vicinity of canoes Think ahead – slow down and check your wash.

Them kayakers.

We met them on the stretch from Teddington to to around Putney last year, virtually all were in good humour and gave us a wave even though we were giving a teeny bit of wash during our 6 knot dash to Richmond lock before all the water disappeared.

Not sure if we are going to WID over Easter ,due to still not sure if lock will open because of lack of boats venturing downstream and making up the numbers needed to make lock opening worthwhile for BW.
