Assume you live in Brum and have a 19' boat on a trailer ready to go. Looking at the weather, where would you head on Friday for 5 days?

Feel free to have a second and third go as the forecast firms up over the coming days.

Leave the boat where it is. Fly to somewhere warm and sunny ...... Hope the weather is better by late spring bank hol ........ The sea does not warm up significantly until well into June. Plan a sailing holiday in late June or July

+1, I am going to north wales, was going boating but looking for something else to do now. Camping and a book.

The Broads probably if it were me. Plenty of scope even if the weather doesn't play ball 100%. If forecast is good then maybe the east coast, Wells etc. South or north is going to be a bit of a drag on the first B/H of the year.....

We went camping and dinghy sailing on the Broads at Easter once .... only once. 1977 IIRC

Not quite as much snow as we have at the moment but we pitched the tent in a snow storm. As cold as it is a present, maybe colder.

Being a devout coward (with arthritis) I'd stay at home until I fly out to Greece on April 27th.

For the Original poster, I'd think of going down the M40 A34 M27 A31 A348 to Poole and sail round the harbour and up the Piddle to Wareham.
Weather is likely to be better there than the Broads, it's an enormous area of protected water, there are plenty of pubs to visit.

One year with these early Easters we were anchored off the RMYC and when the crew went to pee overboard in the morning he slid across the ice in the cockpit and into the oggin...
He reported it was much warmer in than out.

The nearest freshwater venue with a slipway offering you access to the water. Competing with everyone else on the congested roads to/from our coasts over Easter, especially given the poor forecast, seems like madness.

Possibly, a more pleasurable alternative would be to seek a last minute deal to the sun from Birmingham airport. There's plenty of time for UK sailing, just as soon as 4 layers of clothing becomes adequate :)

Whatever you decide, have a nice long weekend.

We planned to get our TS out last weekend.

It has now got a snowbank of solid bulldozed snow about 10 foot high blocking it in. North East Wales is like a disaster area at the moment. on the level and away from the drifts the snow is about 18" deep and its deep enough to cause our Shogun to be suspended on its belly most of time becomming a 1 ton Sled.

Looks like warmer weather will come in from South West so why not get to the Fal and enjoy a cruise up river and or around to the Helford.

I have thought of jetting off somewhere, but wifey's passport is out of date. My friend has his Cape Cutter in Porthmadog for that week, and easterlies should guarantee some flat water with which to bomb down to Aberystwyth and back perhaps. I don't mind the cold, but can't be doing with cold/wet combined. Windguru for Tremadog Bay is looking promising today.

Hmm if you didnt have the passport problem, Id think about here:

Channel Tunnel, then its about 12-14 hours Calais to the South coast. Get up early Friday and by Saturday you will be in warm seas with a cool breeze. BBQ on the beach .....

If I was in the position to launch. I would be going out from Dinas Yard Port Dinorwic.(VERY VERY GOOD SLIP) Contact Graham (07775611815)

Tides are good to go to Porth Dinllaen and the Ty Coch or explore Llandwyn Island, Or Rhoscolyn.Visit Victoria Doc. Have a pint in the Royal Welsh.

North West Venturers are going out that way if you want some-one to follow over the bar.(check here for bar buoy latest caernarfonharbour.co.uk)

Me I will be shovelling snow till Whit!

Would have to be Falmouth. Although easterlies look like prevailing, which pretty much rules out going round the corner of the Roseland, there's still plenty of fun to be had up the Fal, Percuil, Helford - and if it lulls for a bit out into Falmouth Bay too.

If it's really horrid for the odd day, the Maritime Museum and Truro are good for visiting.

Temperature not set to rise above 5 degrees for 5 days over Easter.

Hi Steve,

I'm running out of weekends to antifoul before launch. Those temperatures together with the Easterly chill is a definite "no no" for me. I confess my preference for a pub lunch by an open, log fire. I can't make the following weekend so leaves just one remaining. Fingers crossed.

Hope you both have a great Easter, assuming you're dug out of the snow :)
