i think wells would be a really challenge to rig up with the fast tide, just keeping our boat alongside with good spring lines it still moves about a lot and sea wall cannot be used as it’s for fishing boats.
have you looked at Brancaster Staithe?
other option is Humber Yawl Club, their Winteringham Haven has slip and pontoons but drys out and members only, GCYC at Grimsby have slip but the also members only and not sure you would be allowed to lock out of the big royal dock in a small boat, would be rather scary.
Hi, I have messaged the local sailing clubs at that area, just waiting for a reply back, I have also been looking at the humber, messaged one club in that area, and thanks for the other mentioned clubs as well ill message them as well

Where were you wanting to go sailing?
As Ipswich is too far, are you hoping to stay around the Wash or maybe into the Broads?
Hi yes looking to stay around the wash area, I can travel a little further, But I am looking to do my RYA II on open water. I have done my I on a lake, but that is boring and not challenging. I spent most of my life around the south coast, also had a powerboat years ago and know the waters quite well. Only moved the east midlands to get away from the rat race and a quieter life, not to mention its a bit cheaper too, lol. As I originally said im unfamiliar with the area.
The biggest problem is from the Humber southward to Great Yarmouth, there is really only Wells as a harbour. This section of coast is very sparse and has virtually no harbours. The nearst places I know that might be able to help are these 2 clubs. The alternative would be to go to a marina and use a travel hoist for launch and recovery, but this will be expensive.

Royal Norfolk and Suffolk Yacht Club have a slipway and pontoons. Membership only.
Royal Norfolk & Suffolk Yacht Club - Royal Norfolk & Suffolk Yacht Club

At Aldeburgh Yacht Club they have a slipway and pontoon. Membership only.

Thanks, some one mentioned Hubberts bridge, going to check it out later today, I have checked out Fosdyke bridge and launched a rubber dingy from there to check it out, though was at 1/2 tide, thought the ramp was way too steep down, may be worth another look at high tide

As others have suggested. The most 'convenient' sailing and facilities are down in Suffolk and Essex. Though the 'niche' sailing in less frequented and/or more challenging locations can have its own rewards (and possibly cost savings too!) .

Nearer to you a few ideas to perhaps check out below. The most 'convenient' and likely marked by asterixes.

All would require further research and/or a prior visit. Most in this area will be heavily tide constrained for launching recovery. I think you will be hard pushed to find a slipway and pontoon in the same location, and need to be a bit more flexible - crane launch and pontoon, or slipway and manage without a pontoon. There are plenty of places you could keep a boat, trailing home or elsewhere once or twice a year, but few convenient for day sailing off a trailer.

HUMBER - note very strong tides
(all the following on S bank of Humber)
*** Winteringham - Humber Yawl Club , I believe has a slipway (friendly bunch, also have a site at Brough on N bank of Humber).

South Ferriby - South Ferriby Marina I suspect only launches by crane (but check with them, but has pontoons or other moorings and is upstream of a lock to the Humber, so not tide dependent for launching. Also there's what like a slipway from the car park of the Hope and Anchor nearby, on the Humber side of the aforementioned lock.

Barrow Haven - Looks to be a slipway adjacent to Old Ferry Wharf.

Humberston - slipway onto sandy? beach at Humber Mouth Yacht Club

THE WASH
Gibraltar Point - Gibraltar Point Sailing Club has a slipway. Very tidally restricted, and will need local knowledge advice about timing and navigating in and out.

Fosdyke Marina - Crane launch only? Pontoons. Said to be a long trek to and from the sea.

Sutton Bridge - Pontoon berths, but no obvious launching/recovery facilities in immediate vicinity.

King's Lynn - Slipway in car park at rear of Corn Exchange Theatre. Contact KL Harbourmaster for info (n.b. not leisure boat oriented). No pontoon adjacent (visitor pontoon further upstream, but should be possible to manage in vicinity of the slip if you get the tide right. Ouse Amateur Sailing Club (building premises close by) nearby may be able to offer advice on locality (although I was told it was mainly a drinking & club).

Snettisham - Snettisham Beach Sailing Club - slipway onto sandy beach.

Heacham - Public slipway onto sandy beach at roundabout at end of Jubilee Way.

Hunstanton South Beach - Slipway onto beach.

Old Hunstanton - May be able to launch onto beach at Sea Lane?

Thornham Old Harbour - May be able to do muddy launch off Staithe Lane?

Brancaster - Looks a candidate. I don't know details.

*** Burnham Overy State - Looks a good candidate.

*** Wells-Next-The-Sea - Looks a good candidate. Get info from harbourmaster (said to be helpful)

*** Morston - Looks a good candidate.

*** Blakeney - Looks a good candidate.
Great thanks for the list. Sutton bridge may be a candidate later in the future may be, there is a sort of slip way, but its rather useless. There has I just seen in the local rag the area waterway is getting a refit and a mention of a slipway, I hope they stick in a proper one :). I dont think dry launch and recovery would be suitable, due to the keel`s, would have to be wet launch, recovery only, few on the list I can contact.

There's a slipway owned by the Environment Agency just upstream of the bridge near Fosdyke marina. I'm sure if you ring David Parkinson at the marina he will let you have a look see.
Thanks, someone else did mention, I have visited before and launched a rubber dingy, though at mid tide coming in the ramp looked extremely steep and unsuitable, I did see the posted pic at high tide so may be worth another look, the slip is EA, also its unlocked so shouldn't be a problem there.

Your long list of places in The Wash does not include Wisbech, which has a slip 50 yds from the pontoons.

There is no slip at Sutton Bridge

None of these has a pontoon and are very, very tidally constrained. It would be a very brave man to launch a keel boat from any of these beaches, unless he drove there on a tractor.
Thanks, ill have a look at wisy, There is a slip at sutton bridge from the old lifeboat station, but its very worn out and breaking up, there is news the area is getting a revamp, and talk of a proper slip getting put in, just hope its a proper one. I would have to avoid dry beach launching, boat is way too heavy to push off also no rollers, and would be impossible to get back on. It would have to be a slipway and wet launch/recovery

I saw someone launching a duck punt there. There's a very strong current with the tide so tricky mid tide.

I don't claim the list is either comprehensive or suitable for any particular boat/person. I was trying to be helpful, and hoped it might be useful for either the OP or any other person rummaging the forum later looking for suggestions (if only to eliminate apparent possibilities!).

I also thought the list might prompt others to add other suggestions and more/better info on those I'd mentioned, in which it appears to have succeeded.

I had specifically said that few places had the combination of both slipway and pontoon, and that the area was heavily tidally constrained.

Putting it together interested me in part because I had searched part of this area for potential boat launching, mooring and visiting by sea possibilities some years ago (pre-Google maps and much of the info - including this Forum - now readily available on the internet).

Yes, launching and sailing is challenging throughout this area, and would not suit most people but, like some other 'less favoured' sailing areas, there are hundreds of boats tucked away in various niches around it, and presumably their owners have as much fun and interest boating as we do elsewhere, or find it a suitable or necessary compromise with travelling distance or other factors.

Personally, I think launching by crane/boat lift and keeping a boat on a mooring/berth (not necessarily in the same place as the launch) is likely to be the most practical proposition in this area for most people, even if they have a trailer (and I used to do that elsewhere with a previous boat of mine that had a trailer), but some people will have different preferences.

There are a great many on the Norfolk Broads though if you want access to the sea without removing your mast that would be the southern rivers.
All the slipways are listed in the green book, most are alongside a quay you won't need a pontoon.
The Norfolk and Suffolk Boating Association then click on green book, and page 128 &119 are what you need.

Hi a quick update, I have found a suitable launch up near saltfleet, not over expensive, and just over an hr`s travel. As posted there are a few clubs that do training a little further, hopefully I can get some more courses done :).
Also checked out Hubberts bridge, seems ideal for a change of scenery, though dont know what issues there will be getting though the tidal lock and time it takes to get on to the wash.
