East meets North - the write up

Sounds good to me /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Out of interest , any comments on proposed layout for Miss Ellie , comments from other owners also appreciated
At the moment she has no provision for cooking , navigating or dumping /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Proposal
Convert port side aft berth to nav station , removing all bedding and fitting VHF , chart plotter and all other nav station kit here , and have the tunnel where you stick your legs when sleeping , as extra storage space
Convert stbd one to a mini galley , again with leg space for stowage but for cooking items
Dumpster will be by means of a porta loo between the two vee berths with a curtain dividing from rest of cabin
Any comments ?

Perhaps do the nav on a piece of wood on the berth?.... don't bother with a fitted chart table on a 21'er?.....

I reckon the secret on a smaller boat is to dual purpose as much as possible. For example, Dave has a small fold down locker that contains the hob. This folds back when out of use to keep a spare seat/berth. he also has a step out of the companionway that has a lifting lid to reveal a sink. Both well thought through and sensible use of available space.

That's pretty std layout on a small boat.

What cooking fuel, and where/how are you storing that?

For Portaloo, you could substitute a bucket, if you're not a) easily embarrassed or b) sailing in sensitive waters. Also, can be used in the cockpit (why did you think it was so named?) and there's a certain primeval charm in taking an open air dump.

We chartered probably the smallest and oldest boat in the whole of Croatia. Loo was supposed to be a portaloo, but it took up too much space, so we left it behind and made do with a bucket. The galley was quite clever - a kind of chariot thingy -2 burners on top, cupboards for crockery, pots'n' pans and gas bottle underneath. It slid on rails from the aft cabin to the saloon, and could be stowed when not in use. Unfortunately we once forgot to bolt it back in place, and during a bit of a blow, it came zooming out from under the cockpit and launched itself across the saloon, shattering much of its contents, and nearly taking my leg with it.

Wasn't aware of that so thanks Ken , I 'may' have to rethink

Olive , sounds like quite an ingenious arrangement , might have to think about that
I bet Popeye got the blame for the breakages /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
