East Head, West Wittering

I went to West Wittering (by car) for the first time today. Having lived in Hampshire all my life I can't believe I had not been to this lovely spot before.

I'd like to go back by boat but looking at the chart there is an awful lot of green on it. I guess the place to anchor is off East Head somewhere south of a line between the green East Heat Split and the red NE Sandhead. Is that right?

Any hints and tips from experienced East Head visitors gratefully received.

I've always found the humps and bumps when at anchor over night there.. the deepest water for me is close to the shore just east of the green marker buoy.. your very close to the shore but i've always found it the deepest.

The east head anchorage is a very very popular anchorage .

Anywhere in that area to the north of the "head" but out of the main channel where you can find the space to put your hook down. Sandy bottom unless you go to the east of Snow hill creek but the holding seems to vary a bit so always set the anchor carefully and make sure it is holding. Once it has dug in it seems OK though.

Another nearby anchorage is to the east of Pilsey island. You are allowed to land but not to venture above the HW line. Bird reserve and alleged unexploded stuff

Agree to what those above say.

I stopped going there a couple of years ago now as got fed up with the large wash created by peeps passing far too fast in the circumstances (ie passing anchored vessels on or near planing speed).
