East Head /anchoring charges

Yes I sort of expect to be charged for Saturday and Sunday if I anchour overnight, although I would be in the harbour for less than 24 hrs.

Angele's logic is impeccable as ever, yet I vaguely recall being charged one day for one night. Not sure though. Either way w/e is only 50% more than a single night ...I think!

I've only ever been asked for a single day's charge when staying overnight, they're pretty decent fellows and I wish more places were like Chichester harbour.

Not in Chichester only in Poole. Marina fees in Chi include the dues but in Poole they charge more per metre and then out the dues on top :(
I have moored my boat in Chichester for nearly 40 years. A ( large) proportion of my annual mooring fee goes directly to the Conservancy as "site rental"

I also have to pay harbour dues every year for both the boat and the tender.

Are you saying that you are not paying harbour dues in Chi in addition to the marina fees or that the marina collects the harbour dues on behalf of the Conservancy, at the same time as the marina fees, and issues you with your licence disc?

When I have used the visitors pontoon up from Itchenor I have paid for that as well

I was in Chi marina last weekend and wasn't issued with a disc (IIRC we were given one when moored on the visitors' pontoon just upstream from their offices)

A long time back we were monthly berth holders there and invited to pay our due on top

According to the website harbour dues can be paid

At the Harbour Office, Itchenor in person, by phone or post
At the Harbour Office, Emsworth
To Patrol Staff either on the hard at Itchenor or afloat
At most sailing clubs & marinas (visitors dues only)

I guess in most cases visitors will pay if /when they are intercepted by the patrol. Residents will pay the annual rate direct to the harbour office.

I paid mine over the counter at Itchenor on Wednesday morning

I believe that if you visit a marina in Chichester their charges include the harbour dues to the conservancy. When anchored at East Head for lunch I have been asked for dues by the harbour patrol and explained that I was moving up to Northney for the night. They said that was fine dues would be included in the Northney fee and didn't ask for any money.

That's what I thought but had a mildly threatening note left on the boat about paying harbour dues having paid to be in the marina....... will have to clarify this next time I go to Itchenor.

If you had a boat in a Chichester marina for more than a few days, without a Chi harbour dues plaque I think you might well get the mildly threatening letter.

I pay annual Chi fees, last year I didn't put the sticker on for a few weeks after launching and got a snotty letter ty-wrapped to the rails saying ' we know you've paid from our records but we'll threaten to charge you for non display '!

They even threatened to confiscate the rudders from dinghies sailing without stickers a few years ago, but when faced with a lot of ' you and whose army ? ' type replies I think that idea was dropped...

Despite paying annual fees I would have to pay extra for using the drying piles, Emsworth pontoon or Itchenor visitor's moorings.

The Conservancy approach varies with the HM, the present one is a bit less military and more reasonable than some in the past - plus I expect like eveything in sailing customers are down so it pays not to be too snotty; while I do think that 99% of work on marks etc is done around the Itchenor area - ie not mine - overall I think the annual dues fair enough.

Because you you were not displaying a current harbour dues plaque I guess. It's your responsibility to pay the harbour dues, by one of the offered routes, and display the plaque.

It appears that paying the harbour dues via the marina may be an option for short term visitors to the harbour but not to residents. It is certainly not included in the basic marina charges otherwise someone like myself who moors in the harbour normally and occasionally uses one of the marinas would be paying twice.

There maybe some special concessions for anyone taking their boat directly to the marina, after launching elsewhere, and then keeping it there without going out into the harbour again but I suspect not many people fall into that category

I found the staff at Itchenor helpful and friendly and they allowed me to pay my harbour dues I mistakenly thought were included in the marina fee.I will now got directly from the yard to Itchenor and pay for a plaquefor I month .

Purely my perception but I'd say about 75% of the boats in most marinas never leave their berths... :D

Just to get this clear, I visited Cobb's Quay for the first time a few weeks ago and paid the marina. No one asked for any additional harbour fees. Should I have paid a fee to Poole Harbour in addition to the marina fee?
