East Cowes Marina ... and the dreadful problem of finding clean services

.

East Cowes used to be one of our favourite marinas, the wife and myself liked the showers, services and their cleanliness.

Last year however we were left disappointed. We complained a few times about the poor state of cleanliness of their showers. Both myself and wife often found toilets in poor state, dirty and with rubbish left around, and by talking to the managers we learnt that the services were cleaned only twice a day whilst it was clear to us that they should have been cleaned at least every two hours at peak times due to the high number of visitors (it was the week before Cowes Week right when the marina increased their daily visitor price).

It is unlikely that this year we will stop at East Cowes.

Isn't it dreadful that so many marinas' showers and toilet facilities aren't cleaned and maintained to decent standards? Shouldn't we all complain, or complaining is till too much un-English?

Note:
I changed the subject because I realized that East Cowes marina did not change hands last year as initially thought, and because in any case the point was about cleanliness and not about changing hands.

Haslar & East Cowes have always been owned by the same company, Dean & Reddyhof so there has been no change.

Well not always. D&H purchased it in 1998.

I remember East Cowes marina in the days after the original builder went down the tube ... thoughtfully after installing the pontoons. It was a good place for a free night and it was impossible to complain about the facilities ...none existed!

get your facts right

East Cowes was constructed and run by Dean and Reddyhof as was Haslar Weymouth and Portland

I have been at haslar for 5 years - so why is it so bad?

I must have read some incorrect info then ...

... but it does not change the fact that we noticed a difference and the services' cleanliness was poor last year.

I visited Haslar only once in March 2009. Never again. The boat services were dirty, freezing cold and had no hot water. The plumbing looked like coming out of a Dickens' novel. Better not mention what was coming out of the plumbing ...

The other services on the floating pontoon were dreadfully unclean.

You should tell them that. On their website they say they bought it in 1998.

Originally built By John Willment Marina ( Cowes ) Ltd. Certainly known as the "Willment marina" when I first went there.

I've been to East Cowes often (prefer quieter East Cowes than West) and the facilities have always been okay. Not amazing but good enough.

Just finished my first year at Haslar. No complaints about the ablutions there.
We charter from Haslar and always found the facilities nice and clean. But that's always in the Autumn/Winter. Not sure what it's like in season.

Much the same. Not the smartest, nor the most modern. No piped music or flower arrangements. But always (in my experience) clean, with plenty of paper, and plenty of hot water. SWMBO doesn't complain (and believe me, she would!)

Is the OP getting confused between East Cowes and Island Harbour?

Cleaned every two hours?!? Why not get mad at the slobs who mess it up?

Quite possibly!

Always found East Cowes very friendly as well.

No piped music, that is true - that dubious pleasure goes to Port Solent I suppose. Port Solent are responsible for a whole bunch of freshers permanently labelling Classic FM as toilet music.

We use Haslar regularly, one year we noticed a decline in standards of cleanlines and raised it at the office. They agreed, said they had had a number of similar complaints and were changing the contractors. Good to their word standards improved again and have remained consistent.

Perhaps it just needs bringing to their attention at E Cowes.

Hit the nail stu, it's us that use them that leave in that condition, whilst I only ever shower on my boat I can't say I've seen them clean or dirty, but those who do use them should leave them in the condition they want to find them.
