I am hoping to get my RYA Coastal Skipper practical qualification next year. Does anyone have advice or even personal recommendation on a top-quality sailing school on the East Coast between say Ipswich and the Thames? I did my Day Skipper with John Goode’s Southern Sailing oufit at Southampton - which I would recommend without reservation - but I’d like to get some sailing experience on the East Anglian coast and the Thames estuary. My usual haunt is North Wales; when you live in land-locked central England you are already used to travelling to sail!

Re: East coast RYA schools RECOMENDATION

Hello, I can highly recomend EASS (East Anglian Sea School) I have done my Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper with them on their Princess 385. They are based at Suffolk Yacht Harbour 01473 659992 ask to talk to Peter Smith 10/10. If you are interested I to am considering doing my Yacht Master next year so if you want to 1/2 the cost get in touch as you can hire the EASS boat for a day.. Thanks MARTIN...

Yes, East Anglian Sea School is the largest and oldest-established sea school on the East Coast. They have also recently replaced their fleet with new boats. Peter Smith is a man's man (my Coastal Skipper Practical consisted of an early Spring night trip over to Belgium in F 6-8, two of the crew going down with incipient hypothermia during the crossing) but the standard of the teaching is uniformly high so far as I have heard.
