As no one else seems to have done so, don't think about West Mersea, many moorings, sheltered creeks, little islands, water taxis and all sorts of horrible ness....

There are free buoys in Harwich town centre provided for your visit.

Really? I never knew that, in fact, I didn't know Harwich had a town centre.

If you get further than the above, Wells Next the Sea is fantastic.

Normally very quiet although very busy (rammed) at the moment now it's school holidays.
We were there early July and there were one of only 3 boats there

Lots of good suggestions there; you will have to get your head around our depths around here - 2m is deep................ (& that not under your keel)

Perhaps read Dylan's KTL, he sailed most of them as a newby. I cut my teeth on the east coast, loved it. But also sailed a lot around Falmouth. Super, just different.
Thinking about the Buttley Oysterage makes me drool.
