East Coast Pilot.

Met Dick today, managed to get up East Farleigh and back with brief stop for "refreshments".
Woke up to thick fog around 7.00 am but it cleared very quickly, in the end really pleasant day indeed.
Dick spent most of the time writing stuff down, crossing stuff out and taking photos while muttering about the lack of contrast .:)

A fine trip on the good ship Mr & Mrs Oldgit. Suffered badly from having food and drink thrust at me all day, which more than made up for the lack of light.
My day's deviation to The Dark Side was really good. I could be converted. One day.
Thank you!

Went to look at Fairline 36 Sedan over weekend. A considerable improvement in both condition and asking price over the tired old P35 and the frankly sad Brava 37 we saw the previous weekend.

I've looked at the Fairline Sedan 36 a few times whilst changing boats. In the top two on more than one occasion, I like the layout. Our last boat was a Fairline Targa (with twin petrols) and we had the usual troubles you get with trying to run a big petrol engined boat on the Thames at tickover. Lost a fortune when we sold it. This P415 has been brilliant although she had quite a lot to do when we got her and has had much tlc and a small fortune spent on her, she too was tired and has had significant facelift. Apparently she is staying on the Thames but changing names. Nothing bad to say about it other than no girlie buttons so good experience learning close quarter manoeuvring with a tall vessel that catches the wind (no it doesn't have any other form of sails!). So I'm back to a Fairline as you know, looking forward to the Squadron although doing the facelift before we take possession of her this time so we can spend more time on the water than the time spent with her in pieces during the work.
Tell us more? Maybe this will 'be the one' :-). If you need any help with her, or want crew to help you get it from somewhere or just want to bring it up river so we can all have a meet just holler? Good luck, hope this works out. I think there was one for sale by someone at the Upper Thames Yacht club a while back too?

Thanks for info.
We are basically looking round for a more capacious quicker boat. There are only three boats that I would even consider bothering with, Turbo 36.Fairline 36 and of course P35.
Not fussy about which one it is or engine options, when you have been used to a whole string of what are basically displacement boats, even 165 HP and 18 knots is a rocket ship.:)
Fortunately our choice is made even simpler by a simple refusal to cough up more than the absolute minimum for a troublesome hole in the water money pit...... aka... a boat. :)
Have now had a bit of interest in my old tub,so things may well lurch irreversibly into the next stage .

I'm sure it will all end up fine. And if you have a short time without one you are more than welcome to join us too :-) I have a dinghy that will go about reasonably fast lol.....
