We were just musing over where the Stella pre season dinner should be this year and although we usually have it at a yacht club we were thinking somewhere with some nice accomodation would be better so that people don't have a long journey home. We usually get about 30 people, generally situated between Medway and Deben. Anybody got any suggestions for a venue?

Cheers

The East coast Jester people have had a few meetings at the pub on the A120 roundabout at Braintree. It has a Travel Inn and pub attached. May not be the sort of thing you are looking for, but just a thought ............

Isn't the Blue Boar the place with a micro brewery, which makes the wonderful Pucks Folly?

Yes, plus at least half a dozen other ales from the same micro brewery out the back.

Although it's my local (about 75 yard walk away), I eschew the local brews in favour of their Adnams, which is the best for miles around.

The owner is a yottie, with a handsome 67ft aluminium sloop, French design/build, swing keel (a la Southerly) + water ballast, twin wheels/rudders.

Their food is very good, which can either be eaten in one of the bars or in their dining room. Can't comment on their rooms, though, as haven't stayed there.

If your partial to Adnams, then this in not the place to go as they don't do it. As an Adnams fan I would recommend the Cherry Tree in Woodbridge. They have excellent beer, a private function room, parking, and rooms at the rear detached from the pub itself.

The Anchor in Woodbridge. Good food. Verne from Spice Bar now running the show.
Froise is the most poncy over rated "pub"
