Hi,

I could use the services of a marine engineer to check and just reassure me that our boat is not in danger of losing her keel.

The advice given in the thread has pretty much reassured me - but I'd like it looked at as you might imagine.

She's at the Haven. Will engineers from say Fox's travel, or do I need an independent?

Does anyone have a recommendation for someone who could help?

Bring her round to Fox`s they will lift drop the keel & re-bed it.
Phone & ask for Ralph Catchpole GET a fixed price ;)

Hi Sailorman

Can they also do Epoxy repairs? If so, it could be worth it next month when she goes back in.

There's a repair to do and a cutlass bearing that could stand replacing. Guess I could do the whole lot in one go round at Foxs.

I hadn't thought about that option.

Well what I need - Keel bolts checked, Cutlass bearing replaced, small expoxy repair - will not require extraordinary skills for a boat yard (though they are beyond me). If people are broadly happy with them I'll take her there.

If anyone thinks that would be a mistake I'd be happy to be PM'd.

Is Fox's my only option - She's a Jeanneau - do the dealers at SYH have any works?

[Edit]

Fox's are no different than any other company in the marine industry.
The process can at times be rather frustrating (like trying to nail jelly to a wall), BUT we always get there in the end AND the workmanship has always been nothing but first class.

That'll do. I've seen your blog - they did a lot more to Guapa than I need. If you're happy then I'm sure I won't have any problems with them.

Failing that and if you want a slightly cheaper option than foxes you could pop it round to Southwold Boat Yard or we can pick it up and deliver it back as we do for a number of others down your way.
Thinking about it we re-bed a Southerly keel recently.
