East Coast Marina Prices

I'm on the Deben too - anyone welcome to my mooring when I'm away. Only once encountered someone using it, and absolutely not a problem, even though I told them no hurry and finish their lunch before they went (they rushed anyway).

Had the same thing when we had a swinger at Pin Mill, someone using our mooring. The next mooring was free and we said we'd grab that and move when they had left, but they insisted on moving.

Imaging if you parked your car in someones parking space :mad-new: :beaten: :sorrow:

I had a mooring on the Orwell for a while. As we cruise all summer I put a board with my mobile number on it, idea being, phone the number and find out - a) If the owner is coming back soon, b) What weight is the mooring rated for, 3) Whatever, pub, local shops. In three years I had one call - from Americans on the way to the Baltic so had sailed right through to the East coast. I came back to it on at least five or six occasions in that time when it was occupied and every time the occupants seemed miffed that I wanted to use it, figure that?

Its "The Special Relationship"

Best place for freeloaders is some out of the way harbour, away from the rest of us :)

The only problem is that when we get there we find loads of empty buoys scattered all over the place and it's a right pain trying to find somewhere to drop the hook without fouling something.....

I don't have a permanent mooring (well apart from inside my barn) so it means that pretty much wherever I go I have to make use of the facilities I find. I don't particularly like picking up buoys but sometimes there really isn't much alternative. It's not as if there is a parking meter nearby that you can slot a few coins into, and is it really appropriate that someone be able to "bag" a particular piece of river or sea bed for their exclusive use?

My view is that people pay for their moorings so that they have somewhere secure to leave their vessels unattended. I don't leave my vessel if I'm on a random buoy because firstly the owner may return and need it, and secondly I've no way of knowing how secure it is. I therefore do not regard it's use as "freeloading".

I agree 100%. I have no problem "borrowing" a mooring for the afternoon and never had a problem with anyone using mine if i was away. It's how it's always been and long may the tradition continue.

My "freeloader" comment was tongue in cheek about something else :)

All of the published prices are VAT inclusive.

My £220 charge was fully inclusive of lift out, scrub, cradle, lift in.

Apologies... whilst there was no VAT in the calculation, I did cock it up somewhat. Here is a corrected version of it. I would've edited my original post to avoid any confusion but it doesn't seem to want to let me do that.

Very interesting comparison - thanks.

Interested in why you did not include Tollesbury, Titchmarsh or Tidemill, the three T's - realise all are restrictive to different degrees due to another T - - - the Tide - - was that why they are not included ?

Titchmarsh of the three is less restrictive and at 8mtrs their web site says annual cost inc liftout/in/cradle would be £3,075 with a 10% discount on that paying up front - taking annual cost well under £3k.

No assoc - just interested in the calc and reasoning.

I'd imagine so, they're all pretty hopeless if you want to be able to just get on the boat and go sailing.
