I know a few of us are cyclists and some, Morgana is one, are training for various events. Just wondering if anyone fancied an early sunday morning ride maybe taking in some of the east coast sites?

Sorry Brian, serious amounts of boatfixing to do.
Besides, I am not sacrificing what remains of my pods chafing on the seat on wobbling up and down a few essex roads without a real reason to be there.

For those of a less athletic bent, you will find me in Full Circle, where beer and tea are both on tap.

Pink bandit? I think I need a picture.

Great stuff. Suggest we wait a couple of weeks until it warms up a bit. Could think about a nice route in the meantime. Where is mrs chellers based?

Sounds nice Brian,

Logistics permitting, i'd be keen!

Lets see if we can recruit Mrs Chellers along... she's a VERY keen cyclist (rides a recumbant)

I'm Mrs Chellers, currently In Disguise with this username...

I'm based between Colchester and Manningtree but don't mind hopping on a train with my trike (or using the car).

I could suggest a tour of some sailing regions - I've actually done a few led rides that have visited Walton-on-the-Naze. One can do a nice fifty miler from Manningtree to Walton to Brightlingsea to Wivenhoe/Rowhedge to Manningtree. However I am sure there are nice places further afield. How about a ride around the Shotley Peninsula? (I've done some of that before too).

Last year I cycled 12,000 miles but this year I'm doing appallingly due to work/weather/general laziness/bike servicing and have only done 650 miles so far all year.

We might be interested as long as it's not too 'keen' a ride. Mrs Wingdiver can often be found cycling around the peninsula or towards Hadleigh with friends. There are places serving refreshments of an alcoholic and non-alcoholic variety all about.
I find something with an engine far better but have been pursuaded () on the merits of pedal power.
Recumbent = good! Saw a chap in Cambridge recently who had clocked 48 mph on his. I could do that - if I went over the cliff by the Naze Tower! :D
Oh, and if anyone is looking for a cycle mechanic, I know of one who lives near Manningtree and works very near to our mooring :o

Goodness me Morgana, my cruising speed is nearer 10-11mph!

Obviously when we know who wants to come along we can decide where.

Most cycle rides I do with chums (and I do a lot of group rides) consist of 10-15 miles of cycling followed by a cake/tea/pub stop, then another 10-15 miles before a lunch/pub stop, with several further stops where necessary for beer or other delights. I imagine this would be something similar.

I've done 45mph on my trike coming into Manningtree down Cox's hill - it was great fun!

Oh, and I have now changed my name on the forum - I am the Former MrsChellers (seeing as Chellers is up for sale...)

Cake stops sound fine to me. I am happy to jump in the car on a Sunday Morning and meet up near manningtree or shotley. How bout 14th March as hopefully it will be a bit warmer by then?

Would love to join you but I am in hospital at present, and have been since before Christmas and hardly able to walk unaided. On the mend now so keep me in mind for later runs.

All a big nuisance - I buy a really nice single fixed bike, take it out for two or three weekend runs then have to go into hospital "for a few days". Here I am two months and three operations later and weak as a kitten!

Still I have broadband and pooter now...
