Iv just returned from a two week trip to Nidri to carry out a few jobs on our boat , I lived aboard in Steno yard which is about half a mile from Nidri .Anyway last Friday evening I'd been to a local bar for a few beers and walked back to the yard along the deserted road about 12:30 am . Back on the boat and off to sleep straight away all nice n snug .
Middle of night and I was woken by a slight judder of the boat, in my sleepy state I deduced it wasn't windy which shakes the boat sometimes and decided it was an earth tremor and drifted back off, well nearly off until five minutes later the boat began to shake, I mean proper violent severe shaking ! Definitely not wind, definitely a proper earthquake happening and continuing to happen, I grabbed onto a substantial bit of furniture in case the boat fell over and waited , maybe 30 seconds later everything went still and quiet and I breathed a sigh of relief ! Well the Earth definitely moved and I saw on the news in the morning the quake had registered 5.2 .A new experience for me and one I hope not to be repeating . No boats sustained any damage , largely due I suspect to the new supports throughout the yard instead of just big sticks and oil drums .
