I have a '86 Jeanneau fantasia twin keels. Linking the keels and leading back to the engine mount and engine annode is some old ropy green coroded, I assume was once copper, strapping stuff. I assume this is to earth the keels but
1) why
2) is it absolutley necessary
3) can I replace it with copper wire since no one seems to sell this.

Secondly I cant see an annode for the propshaft or prop. any fantasia owners out there shed some light on why this is. I have no corrosion on the prop at all!!!

On my boat a Dufour the thick copper strap is connected to the shrouds to act as a lightning conductor. You don't mention if theres a link to the shrouds as well. If your boats using it for the same purpose it needs to be a thick copper strap or it will burn through on a strike. Mine is tinned to prevent corrosion I'm sure you will be able to buy this from someone like RS.

My Fantasia has anodes on both the shaft and propellor - maybe yours have either corrodedaway or dropped off?
