Earplug sea sick cure

A friend mentioned that an earplug in the dominant ear is a good preventer / cure for sea sickness.

Never heard of it before. Anyone?

It's been around for a while - some say it works, others less convinced. There's also a theory that a single eye patch has the same effect.
