You don't necessarily need stars. Try vertical or horizontal sextant angles. It is generally agreed that horizontal sextant angles is the most accurate means of visual position fixing and can be a useful way of getting used to your new instrument. You will need the right tables for vertical SAs though.

Thank's for the kind words, I live on the top of a hill in the middle of Yorkshire, can't wait to get to the brown stuff the call the Humber. am going to use if for a trip from across the pond around May 2004. I have a very soft spot for Devon & Cornwall, have got some great stories from my Hippy days down there!!

To be strictly accurate he didn't win the sextant, he won the auction. Whether he paid more than other suckers depends on whether
a) You call him a sucker
b) You call the other bidders suckers
c) The sextant is good value for money

Well I have confessed ! errr sort of !!!!!

I've told her I'm getting a sex tent she's looking forward to playing in it, I will let her kknow a little at a time, well sneak a bit in at time I'ts less of a shock for her!!!
