Well SWMBO and self attended yesterday.

First off we parked underground and thought it a bit odd that no one else seemed to be parking or walking in on foot.

Parked and arrived at Hall 1 - the main entrance! Closed.

Walked along to Hall 2 which is the hall in the picture on the tickets (£14). Closed…….

Directed round the back to Hall 3 – open. This is what I always call the back door as its Warwick Rd by the tube station. Couple of small speed boats outside welcomes punters!

Finally arrived at the ‘show’ - what show?

Zero atmosphere - at 1100hrs many many stands were empty and were still unattended on our second lap. The people had, I think, given up.

Not many boats in the pond. Some teens on wakeboards were towed off a slope by some guy on a jet ski which was as exciting as watching paint dry……….

Very little on offer frankly, hardly any electronics save a good Standard Horizon effort. Gibbs Marine had a good display of day/speed / entry-level type of stuff but that was it. Could not even go upstairs to look down, as I loved doing in the old days as stairs closed and escalators blocked off.

Only busy spot was the bar at lunchtime.....but lots of room there too!

Very very disappointed.

That’s it for Earls Court I fear. Be interested to see the attendance numbers

Agree entirely. My SWMBO reports that the organiser was on the telly the other day predicting massive crowds for the weekend. I went yesterday afternoon and there was tumbleweed blowing down some of the aisles. The show is even smaller than last year with Hall 2 closed altogether. The only major mobo builders of note present were Trader and Nimbus. There were only a couple of chandlers and the rest of the exhibitors were the usual tat hawkers selling massage chairs and lap dance clubs
I would think this is the last one. The organisers can bow out gracefully blaming the recession

Yup, just before you got the Guinness bar /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yes, I forgot to pick up my free 'Executive Invitation' before I left. Had to decline earlier as SWMBO was behind me!

The numbers are a surprise at 8500/d on average.....

I have attended better shows at Port Solent in the past couple of years when Fairline had a show and Premier / Ancasta followed suit. Much more of interest there and better bits and pieces at Marine Super Store than what i saw in Earls Court`3'.

I went last week and took the wife.
In the past, she's been to Southampton with me and promised to never ever go again. Something to do with seeing everything twice and me still wanting to go around again!
She loved Earls Court. Only an hour from home on public transport, See everything, have lunch and home in time to collect the kids from school.
From my point of view, Disappointing number of cruisers and trade stands but those that were there on Thursday had all the time in the world for a chat. Something that is rare at Excel or Southampton.
I really enjoyed it for what it was and hope it survives in the future. I Love Excel and Southampton but Earls Court is still fun.

I did like EC due to going with my father out for the day etc etc.
But now excel is great for me. I drive there have a great day usually thursday late night. They have bands on or show of some sort.

I went yesterday to have a nose around, looking for a new tender for next year. What a dismal show...if they try to make you believe they had some 42000 people through the turnstiles then, judging by the lack of people on the last day, I think some massaging of the numbers is involved. I, for one, will not go back nor will a couple of other people I know who went during last week. Several exhibitors made some very disgruntled comments about the lack of visitors. I could'nt understand why so many stands taking up quite a lot of floor space were selling paintings!!
All in all a very poor show and I can't see how the numbers stack up to create the demand for next year's event.

I had a meeting with a client today who exhibited there,he was very happy with the results. The numbers were better than last year and he made money. His statement was that the qualitity was there and it achieved it's objective.

Perception and reality are sometimes very different. I've not heard from other exhibitors so can't say it was universal.

You didn't clarify if your friend was involved with the marine trade or if he was part of the adult entertainment section. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Its very interesting as simply as a show (to attend as an owner) it was dull in the extreme.

The brokers / distributers all say that they could do with more people but those they had were the peeps they wanted there and not on day out! The cost for them is low and pay-back is quick it seems.

I was kindly provided with tickets from a forumite - but £14 a ticket + travel etc is not value for money by a huge margin, as Ive said you can see more on a normal day at Port Solent or any S Coast marina..........

I also went on Sunday, and it was very quiet, they said they had been busy on Saturday...but
I tried to get SWMBO interested in an AIS box, the Trader 38, and the table dancing, all failed, so disapointing all round really, then went to Stanford bridge to see my team beaten by Arsenal, so rotten day got worse. In future i am going to stay in scotland!!! (well till the next home game)
Don't think I will bother going to EC next year. Maybe give the Excel show a try if it coincides with a game.
