OK, the Earls Court event which is set to "Put the show back in Boat Show" Sounds exciting. It may be a long way off but who thinks they might give it a go. And who is going to be going to Earls Court in December instead of Excel in January?

We'll definitely be going. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Tried Excel but didn't like it and won't be going again. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

What are the new EC boat show organisers going to do about the problems that caused the move out to Excel?

viz, lack of space, no where to sit down, etc...?

Given that it will be the same exhibitors, what (apart from the rosy-eyed historical ties) makes EC so attractive?

Not trying to belittle a new boat show, but fail to see the point.

Have to say from an exhibitors point of view you have made some very valid points that we are all thinking.

The other one is set up and breakdown was always a nightmare there too.

Whilst there are problems with Excel I prefer it as a venue, it could do with being somewhere else but the venue is good.
They are trying hard.
First year was a nightmare to find somewhere to eat in the evening but more places open up each year.

It does lack the show bit, in a big way.

IMHO EC will be mega this year as people will go to see what the fuss is about, like the first year at Excel.

All IMHO

Really? I've been to an EC show and won't bother again. I think the danger is that if the two shows split the exhibitors, then I just won't bother with either and wait for SIBS or just go to Düsseldorf.

Have they got the stall that used to sell spices?
And genuine boat show bargains?
More like a bazaar praps?
Yes? Good, I will be there.
I will also prob go to Excel again, and probably not miss Southampton either.
In fact roll on Beaulieu and North Weald....
Its a days entertainment, bit of education and a couple of scoops of Guinness with mates.

Looking forward to it

I've said it before, and I say it again, why on earth not take the second Boat Show to the NEC. Easy to get to wherever you are, by road, rail, plane or bus, and acres of space. OK so no boats in the water, but they could always do as EC did, create an indoor marina.

I'll not go to EC or Excel, but for it's convenience to the Midlands, I would go to Birmingham.

For people like myself living in the west of the country then Excel is a nightmare to get to adding a couple of hours onto the journey and on top of that there seemed to be very few boats to look at that were worth the trouble or chandelry to browse.
Having said that good old Ken Livingstone has gone and extended the congestion charge area so it looks like that getting to Earls Court will be more expensive now so for my money i would say take it to the NEC or i will just stick wth Southampton.

Really interesting replies. I have registered to exhibit already and it looks like it could be a really exciting event
