EA Thames Customer Charter 2021-22

""This is looking to be a summer of discontent. ""

Now is the winter summer of our discontent
Made glorious summer winter by this EA ;
And all the clouds that lour'd upon our house
In the deep bosom of the ocean buried.
Now are our brows bound with victorious wreaths;
Our bruised arms hung up for monuments;
Our stern alarums changed to merry meetings,
Our dreadful marches to delightful measures.
Grim-visaged war hath smooth'd his wrinkled front;
And now, instead of mounting barbed steeds
To fright the souls of fearful adversaries,
He capers nimbly in a lady's chamber
To the lascivious pleasing of a lute.
But I, that am not shaped for sportive tricks,
Nor made to court an amorous looking-glass;
I, that am rudely stamp'd, and want love's majesty
To strut before a wanton ambling nymph;
I, that am curtail'd of this fair proportion,
Cheated of feature by dissembling nature,
Deformed, unfinish'd, sent before my time
Into this breathing world, scarce half made up,
And that so lamely and unfashionable
That dogs bark at me as I halt by them;
Why, I, in this weak piping time of peace,
Have no delight to pass away the time,
Unless to spy my shadow in the sun
And descant on mine own deformity:
And therefore, since I cannot prove a lover,
To entertain these fair well-spoken days,
I am determined to prove a villain
And hate the idle pleasures of these days.
Plots have I laid, inductions dangerous,
By drunken prophecies, libels and dreams,
To set my brother Clarence and the king
In deadly hate the one against the other:
And if King Edward be as true and just
As I am subtle, false and treacherous,
This day should Clarence closely be mew'd up,
About a prophecy, which says that 'G'
Of Edward's heirs the murderer shall be.
Dive, thoughts, down to my soul: here
Oldegyte cometh through Teddingtone..

Too much time on your hands? No bilges to scrub & paint? Have you polished your mismatched set of sock wearing fenders ready for the next trip to the Great Ditch? ?

you must be new, i used to be like you. Enjoy!
Been boating on the Thames since 1988.
The first was a Springfield 27, built in Maidenhead.

Not been on the Forum for so long.
Forums can be a useful source of info, but can also contain much false information, scaremongering and back room politics. There are those who will always complain.

I have just been out to buy a standard Hoselock connection as suggested by the EA to further my enjoyment of the Thames.
Anything else I need to bring apart from a large bag of money, a suit of armour and a book to read while waiting in the que for water ?

The hose pipe to go on the end of it ?

Just thinking back to when we had our Springfield, she was moored in Bray Marina for a number of years before we moved her to Penton Hook.
If my memory isn’t playing tricks on me, I seem to remember our annual mooring fee in Bray for a 27 foot boat in the late ‘80s was about £1,700. I do remember the river licence back then was very cheap, something we just paid without even thinking about it. I seem to recall it being about £20 compared to £650 for a similar sized boat some 30 years later

I was boating yesterday and I didn't see any lock keepers working Penton, Chertsey or Shepperton. So much for the updated Charter!
Incidentally, a little "birdie" informed me that the lock keepers want to go back to work now but are being stopped, however, should be back working by the 12th.

As an aside, we were unable to pick up water from Chertsey because a wide beam steel boat was picking up water and estimated at the current rate he would be there for another hour.

This is looking to be a summer of discontent.

I went through Chertsey at about 1630 yesterday (Good Friday)and there was a lock keeper who let us through.
However we did Shepp and Sunbury ourselves.
