I decided to have a go at pre-ordering my Thames river license on Tuesday to save hanging around too long when we arrive on the river.
Given the cutbacks and difficulties etc that the EA are experiencing, I must admit I thought it was going to be a fairly painful process.

Reality was, the phone was answered extremely quickly on my initial enquiry, they then called back when they said they would and I had my license PDF'd to me <3 Hours after my initial enquiry.
I then had a further query (my fault, didn't realise that a 2 week ticket from Friday would expire on a Thursday) where upon, once again, both by email and phone the staff were extremely quick, polite, thorough and efficient in explaining things.

Not a great deal of point to this post, I know, but praise due in my (one and only) experience!

They're good at taking your money, but with no working pump out between Teddington and Mapledurham, I hope you've got a big holding tank!

Edit: Mapledurham also out of order until further notice! I think I'll give swimming in the Thames a miss this year:disgust:

Easy enough to pump out at various Marina's in between! Windsor and Marlow should be handy, both are riverside ;-)

I had a similar experience with CRT recently. PDF's received within the hour and hard copies followed next day. I'm glad I'm supporting all those that don't bother with licences, keeps my conscience clear.

Oh, it's absolutely vast. 215 miles long I believe ;)

Murv....you will notice a large sign as you approach Teddington lock. It states..

"Please note you are now entering the non tidal Thames.

Welcome.(Unless you are a narrowboater, fisherman, rower, river pikey or even worse foreign)
Leave your sense of humour and any dangerous spare levity you may be carrying aboard, at the entrance."
You time on the river will be greatly enhanced by adopting an aura of doom and gloom and opining at every opportunity that the world has gone to the dogs.
Please spend as much money as possible and enjoy your stay ....:):):)
Ps Please do not eat the swans or carp.

That's the big sign by the office. The smaller one at the top of the lock cut says:

Dear Medway visitor,
If you put your glasses on, you'll soon realise that the other boaters aren't actually waving at you :D
