In Henley we're very lucky one of the local lockkeepers Simon Shepherdson of Hambleden lock keeps us aware on the various Henley FB Groups of river conditions. Anyway drinking tea in bed with my wife this morning she started reading Simon's reports, and I hadn't heard about some of the closures (locks closed to boater user error etc) he mentioned, so thought it might be worthwhile posting here.
Hambleden Lock UNOFFICIAL river conditions update, Thursday 30th April 2030hrs. First report for several weeks, as there has been nothing to report. If you were expecting good news, look away now. After the driest April in living memory, it has been a very wet end to the month. Yellow Boards have reappeared this afternoon from Marsh to Boveney. The flow is around 60m3/Sec.
Please remember that social distancing is SO important if you are out and about.
EA Coronavirus (COVID-19) update...
During the coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency, you must not make any journeys on your boat other than to access essential services and facilities.
Until further notice, we will not provide assisted passage or powered operation at locks. If you need to go through a lock, you will need to hand wind it.
Marsh Lock has a tree blocking vessel passage. Sunbury Lock cut has a sunken boat blocking vessel passage. Passage is not possible through these locks. As soon as our Operations teams are able to recommence their activities, these locks and reaches will be reopened.
Folly Bridge between Iffley and Osney is closed due to a van in the River blocking navigation.
Sandford and Abingdon Lock are currently out of service due to boater user error.
Hambleden, Cookham, Bell Weir and Teddington Locks do not have suitable hand-wind functionality. Passage through these locks is by prior arrangement and on an exceptional basis only. This can be sought using the email address or phone number below however there may be considerable delays in facilitating requests.
If you need to use these locks and feel your journey is essential and in line with the current government restrictions please email us at WaterwaysThames@environment-agency.gov.uk or telephone 03708 506 506.
Please note: this email inbox is monitored during normal business hours from Monday to Friday. It is not monitored at weekends.
Many of our other services are restricted. Go to GOV.UK for more detail.
Driver will have to remove the van from the river ASAP
