I have a e90w Raymarine unit and have just bought new charts on a compact flash card. Having put the new card into the machine l am not sure what happens next! Does it read the info automatically or do l need to do something? I am currently on hold with Raymarine and will be here forever at this rate. Does anyone know the answer?

I am assuming that if l leave the card in it will read what's there. Oddly nothing in the manual.

I had a C90W, no need to install anything. Put the card in and switch the plotter on. To be sure it sees the charts, look through the menus for system/unit/whatever info, should tell you.

Follow-up - what kind of card have you purchased? Raymarine plotters of that age were exclusively Navionics and these days they tend to ship cards that do not actually contain any mapping - just the keys that will allow you to download the maps from their web servers. I recently installed a new Raymarine plotter that came with Navionics charts - I had to first plug the card (an SD card) into a laptop with an internet connection and it then downloaded the latest data for the area I had purchased.

It's a few years ago now, but when I first put the card into mine, nothing seemed to happen. It wasn't until I changed down to a smaller range (larger scale), that I realised that it was working as it should.

Yes a Navionics card that l downloaded. It does seem to have all the info at the smaller zooms so I guess it must be working. This unit came with an EU base card installed so l was assuming the new card would be 'obviously different'. Maybe not.

You will know becasue the pre-installed is far less detailed at lower zoom modes especially the depth contours and you will instantly see the difference. I think the one draw back (unless I am doing something wrong) is you cant see the tidal data which is also available on the Navionics cards, so it is well worth getting something like PCPlanner which I run as well. This gives you the full data set and you can run the same chart on your PC and plotter without having to purchase two cards becasue you can load the data to the PC. It works very well. With GPS on your PC it alos turns the PC into a very effective backup chart plotter and the planning functions are very good as well.

On some plotters you need to specify in the menu which chart to use, pre-loaded or chart card.

Thanks .. I’ve just about tried everything in the menu and am surprised the rest of it all works bar this last ( essential ) part ....
