1. All taxation is theft (read the Theft Act ... theft essentially means depriving someone of their belongings without the intention of returning them: that is preceisely what happens when the government force us to hand over our money so that they can send our armed forces to go and fight america's wars.
2. There is tax even on red diesel: it's just at a lower rate.
3. What most of Europe voted for was a level playing field. It's perfectly true that if I want to go boating, then there is no reason why I should be penalised any less than my neighbour who chooses to go off-roading. But by the same token, there is no justification for making us Brits pay more than our neighbours in France, Belgium, Holland etc..
It is the sheer, unmitigated greed of the British Government (Tories as well as Labour) that forces us to pay so much more in fuel tax than any of our neighbours.
