Would anyone out there like to try a pre-release version of e-FirstMate? It’s software that runs on a PC and converts NMEA data into audible speech - a little like Mr Hawkins! It understands the majority on NMEA sentences including AIS sentences and allows audible reports or audible alarms to be generated over your cockpit speakers. It provides an easy way to bring navigational data to the cockpit! It is pre-release software so it must be taken as is, it comes with no guarantee!

Hurricane compiled a programme a couple of years ago that does this, his boat talks to you at regular intervals known as 'Logging Event in five minutes' etc, then tells you what your SOG, Lat/Long/Etc. is. We also used it on a laptop last February when we brought my boat round from Gib to Sant Carles. He has had it on his Princess 67 for years.
