Looking for some advice....

Planning to replace my two seacocks this year and originally I was going to fit bronze seacocks, however looking on the ASAP website all the bronze seacocks have “chrome plated brass” (CW617) ball valves, the DZR on the same site all have DZR (CW602N) ball valves. It seems odd to make a bronze seacock and then fit a brass ball valve.

Are there any bronze seacocks with bronze ball valves, or should I just settle for DZR seacocks? Or am I missing something?

Not all of them, you can buy Perko seacocks which have bronze bodies and plastic balls and seats. Perko products are generally good quality.

Brass balls are not generally a problem. However there is no need to waste beer tokens on bronze valves. The latest DZR from ASAP are top notch. Make sure your skin fittings and tails are also DZR or bronze.

I've just spent a fair amount of time researching this, I am replacing eight through hulls, valves and hosetails. As you say the bronze valves have brass balls and the advice I received was that DZR is a better option. So I've gone all bronze fittings with DZR valves. As another has said above its possible to have all bronze seacocks (as opposed to through hulls, valves and hosetails) but there is a quite a price premium for this route. Unless you have seacocks now it is quite a configuration change to go to through hull fittings and will inevitably result in some GRP work to make the change.

Thanks everyone, Robih, is it okay to mixed bronze and DZR fittings?

The advice I received was that there are no issues mixing bronze with DZR. The reality is though that there is no alternative as an all bronze ball valve doesn't exist as far as I've found. I decided to go bronze through hulls and DZR valves on the basis that bronze is best and it is the through hull fitting that is the very difficult part to replace. My thought being that I could replace the DZR valve on the existing bronze through hull if I was concerned as to the longevity of the DZR fitting.

As an aside - I have been using ASAP and Aquafax, both of whom have been very helpful and evidently knowledgeable. Use these types of suppliers rather than buying stuff which zis on the shelf in the local chandler, you just don't know what it is.

Perko, Groco and Buck Algonquin, as already mentioned on this thread, offer bronze-body seacocks with bronze or plastic ball valves. It's all out there, albeit at a price. Realistically, there's no problem using bronze through-hulls and DZR valves.

Pvb, I think I'm correct in saying that these products are seacocks rather than ball valves affixed to separate through hull fittings, is that correct? I wouldn't want to fit seacocks in replacement of through hull fittings. My experience this winter is that there is an important distinction between seacocks and through hull fittings with valves, quite different configurations.

No, they're either seacocks attached to separate through-hull fittings, or simple ball valves. But all bronze, with either bronze or plastic balls.

Thanks again, gives me something to thinks about, I am leaning towards Bronze thru hull fitting and DZR valve as that will it be a similar to my existing fitting, that way in the future I can always just change the valve if I need to. The other bronze suggestions may be more difficult to fit in the space.

I too am replacing a through hull fitting and was looking at stainless steal.. What's the thoughts on that.?

No benefit and marginally increased possibility of galvanic action with skin fitting. Material of choice is DZR or bronze if you want to display your high disposable income. Alternative is Tru Design composite as direct replacement if you have phobia about metal and don't mind the extra cost.
