Dyson cordless vacuum cleaner ?

Although we have 2 mains ones at home, I'm a bit anti Dyson. I think they're overpriced and some of the plastic bits prone to breaking.
In addition, when first on the market, Dyson made a big thing of them being made in the UK. When it suited him, he soon switched to far East. Also they make weird claims in their advertising such as 'digital motor' and 'low carbon' referring to the brushless motor.
I wouldn't get another - there is better value around.

Hi,

Thinking of buying a Dyson cordless vacuum cleaner for use on the boat, car and at home and wondered whether anyone here uses one and how well they get on with it ? I don't intend to use it offshore or anything so am not bothered about the ability to recharge from 12V. Any ideas of which Dyson cordless best suits ?

Thanks,

Boo2

I have a V8 .. Rarely get get the big Dyson out now.

For car and boat use you'll find some of the additional tools useful. eg for getting under car seats and into awkward corners.

The bin soon fills , but not so bad now that I don't have a long haired cat. It's easy to empty though.

The secret with the big Dysons is regular servicing, at least cleaning / replacing the filters regularly , including what they used to call the " permanent" filter.

I’m surprised by the number of comments on Dyson reliability, we have had the same model now for almost 10 years and apart from having to replace one small component (after SWMBO dropped it down the stairs) it’s functioning perfectly. Prior to the Dyson we had Electrolux, Hoover etc all of which failed within 4 years.
My only complaint about Dyson products is their cost, I regret production was moved out of the UK, but I can also see the reasons why.

Our 2015 Dyson DC59 Animal Cordless (from their refurb shop on eBay) is still going strong, and we've abused it plenty with cruising life and winter maintenance. It occasionally sucked some moisture, including the salty kind and all kinds of shop vac type dirt and apart from the plastic "bowl" being a bit scratched up inside from metal filings it shrugged it all off and still works absolutely fine.

Quite an old thread.

We have a small Hoover rechargeable on the boat and it will run for more than half an hour which is plenty to do the boat twice over. It is fine for a quick sweep up. Not expensive.

The chief officer prefers her VAX mains charger. The VAX is very robust . I also have a VAX steam cleaner which has served well with occasional use over several years .

After buying Dyson some years ago and the motor failing when just out of warranty I would never buy another.
