Dyneema soft shackles

Looks like the ones on Ebay are an interesting version of the same things. The Ebay version does not bury the one into the other, but leaves both lines out and makes an eye in the middle (I think) now that I look closer, the eye in the middle is just a one tuck thing. So you can slide it to open it. I would have to build one to try it, but I would be concerned of the eye working it's way open.
The other versions have the cover trying to "push" closed all the time. In other words it naturally wants to close up. Colligo Marine adds a ribber O ring for extra security.http://www.colligomarine.com/Softies-XL-Large-Boat-Series-Soft-Shackles.htm
All good stuff for us sailors!....:-)

Yes....better in that it would not roll or slip out as well as adding bulk to the stopper. You get a better stop from you stopper.......:-)

I wish I had a book refrence to the "old way" of doing things. So many of the same functions were dealt with when all the had was hemp rope. Now we have this new supper light, super strong rope that we can find new/old ways to do the same things....:-)

This web site may help;

The eBay one looks nice and cheap, but I guess it would need some kind of locking strap/ring added to it, to be safer. Would a velcro strap be enough?

Jimmy Green Marine just emailed me a link to their version

..."will not shake loose" - they say.

I've only just heard of dyneema soft shackles, and am much impressed by them, mainly because of the risk to my children of stainless steel shackle & blocks banging them on the head while they try to help. Has anyone used them? Are they good enough? Links to online sources?

Thanks
Keith

I have used them to attach the sheets to the genoa following advice on this forum.

I had eyesplices made up in the sheets and used the Rope shackles from Compass to connect to the Genoa clew.

This has eliminated the problem with bowlines catching on the babystay when tacking, last season it drove us mad!!

Definitely recommend for this purpose.

I had almost forgotten what those hang up's are like.....:-) My baby stay, and staysail stay, and head stay are all Dynex Dux. The stuff is so slick there is no need to put plastic on it to try to get the sails to come through on a tack. "Soft solutions" for hard problem's maybe?

Glad to hear of your improvements. Pics of my boat and many Synthetic improvements below.
