Dyneema or Polyester Braid?

I'm going to renew the guard wire lashings on my boat this spring. So do I use 3mm Ø Dyneema or Polyester. Dyneema appears to have a Breaking Strain of 370kg and the Polyester of about 240kg or 270kg. I'm tempted to go for the Polyester as it's much cheaper and I don't think Dyneema likes being bent around such a tight radius as on the wire lanyard ends.
What do others use?

My vote for polyester - or at least I hope that's what I used... I don't think dyneema would stnd the abrasion of being used as a lashing (though I could be wrong).

I would agree with "rob2". The reason that lashings are used is to enable them to be quickly cut to allow the guardwires to drop to facilitate the recovery of a MOB. Dyneema and the other Kevlar ropes will be more difficult to sever and blunten the knife more than polyester. Thin Kevlar turned tight over stainless eyes will also be far more succeptible to unexpected failure. As to strength, so long as you use at least four rounds (eight times the strength of single line) in your lashings, the strength will be very well adequate. Be sure to replace the lashings every season though, to protect against UV degredation.

Personally, I prefer Pelican Hooks but lashings are very, very nearly as good but are somewhat inconvenient when it comes to replacing them and rapidly restoring security after an incident.

I think Dyneema would be OK but a few extra turns of polyester will be more than strong enough so why spend more? I've never had them fail.

you cant cut dyneema quickly if/when you have an emergancy. poly is the stuff to use

Polyester would be absolutely fine, dyneema will turn corners with no problems at all. Main advantages of dyneema in this situation are that it has superior uv resistance and chaffe qualities, some dyneema lines are also coated to stop them holding water so they would not go green as quickly.

However is use 4" polyester line so that there is some stretch it a line is passed over them.

Both equally good choices.
