Dyneema Cruise- Kingfisher or English Braids?

Managed to nab a few ‘reel ends’ from eBay - mainly Liros racing dyneema that should do for our halyards and a few other bits/pieces. So my eyes are now open to saving a bit of money this way, over ordering by length!

I’ve gone for the same diameter as original in the hope everything works okay with the current hardware.

Anyone use the Liros ropes which Jimmy Green sells?

Our boat came with Liros ropes on everything. Have now started to replace a few key ropes due to wear (after 6 seasons and 9 years UV).
Have tried a couple of Southern ropes cruising dyneema. Been fine on Reef 3, which is rarely used, but didn’t last particularly well on the furler rope, which gets huge & heavy use. Another eBay cruising dyneema didn’t even get fitted as cover too slippy.

So in the end paid a bit more for the Liros Dynamic Plus from Jimmy Green for this, and can feel the difference in quality.

Also bit the bullet and bought the same (but larger diameter) to replace the main halyard with proper stuff. Heartbreaking because needed to replace nearly 50m of v expensive rope due to chafe damage (before my ownership) over about 5cm right in the middle. Two 25m lengths of rope, too short to be of use elsewhere on the boat.
Sorry diversion to wallet weeping, but yes JG Liros Dynamic Plus is proper stuff

Liros dynamic plus is £9/m (12mm), Liros herkules is £4.85. I'm thinking I might get a length of herkules and have a look at it.

If it doesn't seem sufficiently resilient for main halyards, I'll use it for the topping lift.

If you propose to make your own eye splices then I recommend not going for Kingfisher- I found that Kingfisher was very difficult to ease the cover satisfactorily back over the inner core and when I offered that observation to the English Braids chap at a local marina’s open day he too couldn’t achieve a result and like mine still had a small bulge of white core showing at the junction of the eye, He then let me show my technique using his cordage and a good result ensued,
So my advice is go for European or American products ( EB- Marlow-Premium) and avoid the Far East ones

On the other hand if you are budget sensitive then I can recommend Rotamarine of Deptford, which supplies rope from their Turkish manufacturer and when I went to visit their shop and met the owner he really cut me a fine deal on various sizes of Dyneema when I replaced all of my running rigging- splicing 8mm was easy ( the smaller the diameter the more difficult the task for eye splicing)
I have no connection with Rota Marine other than being a satisfied customer

Another name to throw into the mix is Southern Ropes...

Know nothing about them but it adds to the usual list and their products look interesting.
I have used this company a couple of times and will again in the spring.
It is a South African business. Some of their dyneema is great value and they will discuss your needs for splices and so on.
