Dylan Centaur Boat Porn

Dylan

have you considered a westerly pembroke

Its a centaur with a keel which would be fine in our deeper northern water. Just seen one on boatshed for circa 7.5k. By the time you have finished restoring the 2k centaur to seaworthy you may find haggling on this one might not be that far away. you could finance this and get your money back less say £2k so you probably work out square and you could get going. food for thought.

How about this one? You would just need to start your Scottish expedition from the other side of the Atlantic.

long way across the Atlantic in a Centaur
Looks like a nice little boat to film the Cheasapeak and inter coastal though

now who can say that a Centaur is not a handsome looking thing

and that one looks pretty good

I am currently reading a Michener book about the Chesapeake and have done several google earth tours

http://www.amazon.com/Chesapeake-James-A-Michener/dp/0449211584

it looks like a fantastic place to sail

the ICW looks pretty good too

this book is well worth a read

it is about a an old bloke, his son and a cat sailing a cat boat in the winter from New York to Florida

"Description: A true blue water cruising boat." Great boats and met a market need when they were being built and they still have a keen following (just look at the prices they command second hand.) They offer lots of accommodation in their 26', but 'true blue water cruising???'

Comes alive in heavier wind." If ever there was a euphemism!

I've contemplated the ideal Chesapeake Bay/Intracoastal Waterway boat. I keep coming back to this:

Several have crossed the Atlantic, they are strongly built.

having typed the legend "westerly Centaur" into google almost every day for the past couple of months it is amazing how far around the world they have spread

and I assume that most of them were sailed there

I think that they must be pretty good blue water boats

as for speed - I still have my old Sonata Spinnaker.... should be worth an extra knot

maybe I could put the topper mast up on the stern to turn it into a yawl

I have no doubt that they are strongly built and many have sailed many miles.

Its the 'True' bit which amuses me. If people interpret it to mean that its 'truly possible to sail across oceans in a Centaur' then its not actually saying very much, as many smaller boats have sailed long distances as well. To me the phrase had implications of it being designed as a blue water cruiser, which I think most people would agree it definitely was not. "Extremely strong and well built coastal cruising boat with amazing accommodation for its size and with the possible potential to go further" would be a more accurate description IMHO? Blue water boat implies something that you would seek out to cruise round the world on?

I fancy that, - and I'm a raggie. Is a planing outboard boat a good Intercostal boat?

sorry 'bout fred drift..

Based on Dylan's recommendation, I read "The Boy, Me, and the Cat" < http://www.amazon.com/Boy-Me-Cat-He...1389126901&sr=1-1&keywords=boy+me+and+the+cat >. It seems even in 1913 they did more motoring than sailing.

If you read the book, note the priority that should be placed on having a place to hide from mosquitoes. An awning for shade is also a high priority.

the engine they used was a 3hp inboard ..... in the dinghy!

they would sometimes tow the cat and at other times put it up against the stern quarter and push the cat along

good book lads.... read it

Fine looking boat Dylan. You could always buy her and leave her with me up here when your done. Need a family boat nowadays. Fancy a swap for an E-Boat again?
Osmosis aint one of those things that bothers me much either. Boats dont sink because of it.

Surely this is the one. A week or so to sail it from Holland to the Solent at your leisure?

it is a better bet than Dinorwic that is for sure

I am down in the solent Friday

I shall do a bit of a tour

Centaurs are like buses

there will be another along in a minute
